Gary airport today has become a corporate aircraft base with two major FBOs. 'Gary Jet Center' and 'B Coleman'(Signature). It has 2 runways, the main 12-30 and the shorter 2-20. The construction of the northwest extension of runway 12/30 from 7,003 to 8,859 feet was completed in 2015.
The airport is also home UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter operations of the Indiana Army National Guard on the south side. UPS cargo flight now operate from the old terminal ramp using the Airbus A300 and Boeing 757 aircraft.
