For several years, the new field was used mainly for training and aerobatic flights. That would change in 1920 when the United States Postal Service (USPS) began air mail service to Salt Lake City.

The Shuttle Landing Facility covers 500 acres (2. 0 km2) and has a single runway, 15/33.
It is one of the longest and stronger runways in the world, at 15,000 feet (4,600 m), and is 300 feet (91 m) wide.
The facility includes a 150 x 168 meter (490x550ft) parking apron and a 3. 2 km (2 mile) tow-way connecting it with the Orbiter Processing Facility.
Located adjacent to the parking apron is a Landing Aids Control Building (LACB... RWG Launch and Landing Facility (LLF)
