Despite being classified as a "civilian airport," the airport is also home to the most important Italian Navy (Marina Militare) air base, MARISTAER, which operates various units, including:
- The Carrier Aircraft Group (GRUPAER): called "Wolves," which flies AV-8B+ Harrier II and F-35B Lightling II carrier-based fighters; - The Fourth Helicopter Group (GRUPELICOT4): which flies SH-90 transport, assault, and anti-submarine helicopters.
The Guardia di Finanza's Maneuver Air Section is also present at the airport with its ATR-72 aircraft and AW-169 helicopters.
