The airport was Broome County Airport through the 1970s. It was renamed Edwin A. Link Field-Broome County Airport to honor the inventor of the aircraft instrument simulator, the Link Trainer, a name it kept until the 1990s when it was again renamed as Binghamton Regional Airport.
The name Greater Binghamton Airport was chosen in 2003. The field is still named in Link's honor.
