Heringsdorf Airport features a single small terminal building equipped with check-in facilities and an information desk. The apron features one stand for mid-sized-aircraft such as the Airbus A319 and several stands for smaller aircraft such as the Cessna 172. By winter 2015, the airport has been equipped with renewed firefighting and security facilities as well as a refurbished check-in area.

In addition, FSC Mannheim provide activities in skydiving and parachute sports. The airfield is located on the Rhine and is close to Hockenheim, Speyer and Ketsch. Due to its location on the Rhine, the airfield is usually flooded despite the dams. Drying out after flooding can take several weeks, and no flight operations are possible during this time. On August 3, 2017, a Pilatus PC6 Porter with a pilot and ten parachutists on board collided with a tractor that was standing on the apron. Flight operations are permitted under visual flight conditions during opening hours from 9 a. m. to 8 p. m. local time or until sunset; other arrival times only upon request after approval. The airfield is approved for motor aircraft (take-off weight < 9. 5 t), ultralight aircraft, helicopters, motor gliders, gliders (tow and winch launches) and other air sports equipments.
In 1998, the ADAC air rescue took over the rescue service with the Eurocopter EC-135 Christoph 70. Either you pilot general aviation, gliders or emergency helicopters, Jena Schöngleina Airfield is a superb airfield to fly.
