Popham Airfield
Situated along side the A303, just north of Winchester, Popham Airfield is home to the Spitfire Flying Club.
In the early 1970’s the land alongside the A303 was purchased by Jim Espin, a member of the Hampshire Strut of the Popular Flying Association. With the aid of fellow members of the Strut, the land was cleared, levelled, seeded and transformed into an airstrip. The original strip is now the 26/08 runway of the present airfield. In 1978, the airfield was purchased by Charles Church, an avid collector of Spitfires. A second runway was added and the airfield was expanded to include additional hangers.
Today, Popham Airfield welcomes over 10,000 visitors annually and is famous for hosting many events over the year, including the Microlight trade fair in May, the annual Motorcycle Mega Meet, Classic Car Show and Vintage Aircraft Fly-in in August and the New Year’s Day Fly-in.
It is also home to the world’s only “Ikarus C42 As” flight training simulator. This allows the Popham-based flight school, AirBourne Aviation (www. flyMAC. co. uk), to offer flight training to its students no matter the weather conditions. This makes AirBourne Aviation the UK’s ONLY all-weather flight school.
Popham Airfield has been painstakingly recreated by Burning Blue Design’s modellers and coders undertaking multiple on-site visits and flights. We have worked in collaboration with AirBourne Aviation to ensure the highest levels of accuracy. It features:
- Over 160 custom 3D objects have been created exclusively for Popham airfield, each with full Physical Based Rendering (PBR) allowing for extremely realistic textures.
- Thousands of carefully placed stock assets, every cone, car, sign and fence has been placed in it’s correct location ensuring an atmosphere of a working airfield.
- High resolution colour corrected ground textures taken from Bing maps and manipulated for consistency and realism which far surpasses the quality of the stock Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 ground texture.
- Working custom Signal Square, which accurately shows the most suitable runway for the wind conditions.
- Dynamic smoke effects, signs and car park, which change realistically depending on the time of day.
- New control tower built in 2020.
- Based on 2023 layout with over 30 new hangars
- Numerous custom aircraft have been added around Popham to enhance the realism and better reflect actual aircraft found at the airfield:
- Ikarus C42 (AirBourne Aviation school aircraft: G-CCYR and G-CDVI)
- Spitfire F Mk. Ia
- Yakovlev Yak-52 (G-YAKI and G-YAKX – both real aircraft based at Popham)
- Yakovlev Yak-12
- De Havilland Chipmunk
- Correct AI pattern procedures and accurate taxiway and runway placement have been incorporated into the airfield.
- Key navigational landmarks in the surrounding area have been included:
- White Arrow – used by pilots to line up on the offset approach to 26
- Water Tower
- Grain Silos at Micheldever
- Polytunnels – marking the downwind leg of the 08-26 circuit
- BP and Esso fuel stations
- Starbucks (A303 North and South)
- Popham MX Track
- Test Valley Golf Course
- In honour of the car and motorcycle events hosted at Popham, the car park includes:
- 1946 Vespa scooter
- 1955 Volkswagen Transporter ‘T1’
- 1963 Austin Mini
- 1970 Porsche 911
- 1990 Mazda MX-5 ‘Mk1’

Also known as London Ashford Airport, and previously known as Lydd Ferryfield, Lydd International Airport has had a colourful history. The Airport was built exclusively for Silver City Airways after the Second World War and before the introduction of commercial hovercraft and cross channel ferries, Lydd Airport was the primary means of hopping the English channel to Le Touquet Airport in France, and the rest of Europe. Today, Lydd boasts a busy flying club, aerial tours and a number of cargo and cross channel charter companies.
Lydd sits on the Dungeness Peninsular in Southern Kent, the largest expanse of shingle beach in Europe and also the only true desert in Great Britain. The strong winds, lack of plant and animal life and harsh surroundings make Lydd a truly unique place to visit, and it sits in stark contrast to the lush greenery of the rest of the Kent countryside.
Lydd International Airport has been recreated faithfully over many hundreds of hours by Burning Blue Design’s modellers and coders and features:
- Over 40 custom 3D objects have been created exclusively for Lydd Airport, each with full Physical Based Rendering (PBR) allowing for far more realistic textures.
- The Bristow Her Majesty’s Coastguard Hangar at Lydd has been modelled accurately, both inside and out along with a compliment of HM Coastguard Sikorsky S-92 helicopters.
- There are thousands of carefully placed stock assets, every bush, road marking, crate and beacon, along with an assortment of ground workers has been placed in it’s correct location ensuring an atmosphere of a working airport.
- High resolution colour corrected ground textures taken from Bing maps and manipulated for consistency and realism which far surpasses the quality of the stock Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 ground texture.
- Correct AI pattern procedures and accurate taxiway and runway placement have been incorporated into the release.
- Surrounding landmarks have been created and placed in their correct locations to improve visual navigation, these include: Denge Marsh Water Tower, Dungeness A Power Station, Dungeness B Power Station, Dungeness Old Lighthouse, Dungeness New Lighthouse, Lydd Golf Club and The Denge Acoustic Mirrors.
- Shipping lanes in the English channel have been populated with container ships and tankers.
- Full night lighting placed across the aerodrome and within and around the hangars and terminal building.
- New waterways for the Dungeness Headland have been created, including the entirety of the Dengemarsh sewage system which has been remapped faithfully.
- New desert scrub Biome for the Dungeness Headland to reflect it’s status as the only true desert within Great Britain.

It is located near the village Szymany, some 10 km from the centre of the city of Szczytno in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship. The airport was earlier known as Szczytno-Szymany Airport.
EPSY Olsztyn-Mazury Airport is popular among general aviation pilots as a gateway to the Masurian Lake District. The region contains more than 2,000 lakes. The Lakeland extends roughly 290 km (180 mi) eastwards from the lower Vistula to the Poland–Russia border, and occupies an area of roughly 52,000 square kilometres (20,000 sq mi). The lakes are well connected by rivers and canals, forming an extensive system of waterways. The 18th-century Masurian Canal links this system to the Baltic Sea. The whole area is a prime tourist destination, frequented by boating enthusiasts, canoeists, anglers, hikers, bikers and nature-lovers. It is one of the most famous lake districts in Central Europe and a popular vacation spot, with the highest number of visitors every year. Śniardwy is the largest lake being 22. 1 km (13. 7 mi) long and 13. 4 km (8. 3 mi) wide.
The airfield in Szymany originates from 1933. Back then it was located in Germany, just kilometers away from the Polish border. Being hidden, within the woods, the airfield should be used as temporary facility during the war. So it did 1939 during the invasion in Poland. In 1945, the small airfield was in the hands of the Soviet army. As they were not interested in the facility, they left it in autumn 1945. Now located in Poland, the Polish army acquired it. In the 1950s and 1960s it was expanded and assigned as backup airport. It was developed on a low stage for many years, in the second half of the 1970s it received a control tower and further buildings. In the 1990s, when the cold war had ended, the airfield in Szymany lost its importance and was finally left. The remains of the old runway are still visible on the East side of the airport.
Later on, the Szymany Airport received international attention after it was discovered the airfield was used by the CIA in conjunction with a black site prison nearby in 2003.
From 2014 to 2015, the airport was rebuilt with high EU subsidies. Its runway was extended and overhauled; a new terminal, railway link and further facilities were erected. On 20 January 2016, the first ever scheduled passenger flight took off from the airport with a SprintAir service to Berlin. Currently it is used by low-cost carries and general aviation pilots.

All the included aircraft were built to represent their real-world counterparts which were used in World War II as closely as possible.
Also included in this pack is the Suwanose Jima (RJX8) airfield on a volcanic island in Japan. (This airfield has existed in MSFS since the Japan World Update; if you haven't downloaded it yet, you should download it from your Profile > Content Manager. )
Ships and other objects
Two aircraft carriiers are included: the 'AKAGI' with it's typical slanted deck and the flat-deck 'KAGA'
The decks are hardened and you can land on them with some practice. There are no functional wire traps to catch the tail hook of the 'Zero' - just use your brakes and don't come in too fast!
The 'Kamikawa Maru' seaplane tender, is available near the island to create an interesting landing spot for your 'Rufe' seaplane.
Among the other included ships are merchant freighters and more.
Trucks and AAA guns are also included.

- Flap #4 Landing - when you hover above ground, enable to land smoothly
- Flap #5 Parachute - ensure you have at least 500ft altitude above ground. To toggle chute quickly, you can use Gears handle [G]
Anti Ice [H] - toggle first person view helmet visibility
Pitot Heater [Shift+H] - toggle HUD/HMD screen visibility
Spoilers handle - helmet display vertical position adjustment
Navigation lights switch [Alt+J] - aboard attachment toggle
All listed settings can be switch by clickable Control Panel.

HOW REAL IS IT?
We are not trying to build a copy of any real aircraft. However, we are trying to make it fly at least somehow realistically for given specifications, in the existing limits of MSFS and our knowledge. Please consider JW1 as an evaluation of simulator capabilities rather than an attempt to create a flight trainer. Any experience you will get with this add-on can't be used in real life, both for flying or aircraft building.
CURRENT DEVELOPMENT STAGE
Project finished! Get latest freeware or payware version and enjoy the freedom. You can always leave feedback or report issues in comments on website or in our Discord. Some technical limitations exists that we can't affect anyhow, but they will be solved by MSFS developers with time.

HOW TO INSTALL?
Unpack folder touchingcloud-aircraft-jw1 into Community directory of MSFS, launch simulator. You can use an add-on installer if you have any.
To install alternative flight model, after main files already unpacked (previous step), copy content of maxx2504-flight-model into community folder. Alternative FM is more stable and predictable – jetpack will fly like a small plane rather than body attached to the wing. If you feel default one too hard to control – try new one. If you are happy with “challenging” style of default FM – you better stay on it.
HOW TO UNINSTALL?
Delete folder touchingcloud-aircraft-jw1 from Community directory of MSFS, restart simulator.
IS VR/TrackIR SUPPORTED?
MSFS SDK has a limitation which makes impossible to track VR view, but workaround exist which makes possible to predict view direction. You need to center camera before the flight (Space key bu default).
To adjust tracking sensitivity, use wheels on Control Panel - hold controller trigger on one of the wheels, move head away from the center, move controller to center display, release trigger.
You can also try to use motion controllers during flight, moving on the ground or landing with parachute.
In First Person view ("Close" camera) near to pilot hands you can find motion control areas (half transparent spheres) - grab left one first (move controller inside of it and hold the trigger), then right one. Hold triggers to keep motion controls active.
Readme PDF file is inside of install archive.
To apply hot fixes (if you have not made manual changes in config files), just unpack archive content into Community over existing folder. Before minor (like 0. 9. 0) or major (like 1. 0) updates recommended to remove old version completely.
