The first runway is 3,400 meters long and 45 meters wide, and the second runway is 3,600 meters long and 60 meters wide. During the Soviet period, flights connected Chernivtsi with various cities of the USSR, such as Kyiv, Odessa, Moscow, and others. Aircraft used included the Yak-40, Yak-42, and An-24, with An-12s operating cargo transfers.
In September 2018, the airport was named after Ukrainian astronaut Leonid Kadeniuk.
