It is the fifth busiest airport in the Northeast Region and also the fifth airport in the region in terms of the size of the passenger terminal, behind the airports of Salvador, Natal, Recife and Fortaleza. Its 2,200m runway was renovated, with the new 2,602m runway [1] having been opened on September 16, 2005, as well as a new passenger terminal. This terminal (22,000 m²) follows the contemporary trend of resembling airport terminals to shopping centers. It has four boarding bridges with direct access to the aircraft (fingers), two of which are capable of docking large aircraft (including those of the NLA category - New Large Aircraft) and the new aircraft yard system can simultaneously receive up to 19 planes large-sized.
The airport has 24 check-in counters, 7 escalators, almost 600 parking spaces and 67 areas for commercial activities.
It is the first Airport in Brazil designed with the energy efficiency technology of Cogeneration. In its Cold Water Plant there are 2 generator groups powered by natural gas, which supply electricity to the entire airport. Through the cogeneration process, the hot water, used to cool the generators, as well as their exhausted gases, are reused, generating chilled water through an Absorption Chiller.

Macapá International Airport - Alberto Alcolumbre, was designed by architect Michereff. The airport is built on a heritage area of 12,838,316 m². The building of the passenger terminal has two floors, of the linear type and with a built area of 2,913. 73 m². The following areas are located on the ground floor: pre-boarding (check-in), domestic and international boarding, domestic and international disembarkation, cafeterias, public agencies and airlines. The INFRAERO administrative block is located on the upper floor, the Federal Revenue Office and the terrace.
The airstrip measures 2,100m long and 45m wide, and two headlands 08 and 26. The nature of the floor is Asphalt and its PCN 48 / F / C / X / T. The main aircraft parking yard has an area of 11,000 m², with asphalt pavement and concrete islands, with 04 parking positions, where the largest aircraft that operates is the Boeing 737-800, being able to operate up to AIRBUS A320 and Embraer E195 aircraft. . The general aviation area covers 10,900 m², with a capacity for 12 aircraft.
Macapá is one of the very few airports where anyone can freely enter and leave duty free without being a passenger, domestic or international. This is due to the Free Trade Area of Macapá and Santana - ALCMS, which brought customs privileges to both municipalities. Another franchise also offered is universal free parking.
The airport has several weekly flights to Belém and Brasília by LATAM Airlines Brasil, Azul Linhas Aéreas Brasileiras and Gol Linhas Aéreas Inteligentes and will have a weekly flight on Saturday to Recife by Azul from October 14, 2019.

The airport complex was granted to the private sector on March 16, 2017. In an international bidding process, in which the Federal Government granted four Brazilian airports to the private sector, Fraport AG won the concession for the airports of Fortaleza and Porto Alegre for the next 30 and 25 years, respectively. Since then, Fraport Brasil - Fortaleza and Fraport Brasil - Porto Alegre were established in the country with the objective of creating two modern, efficient and customer-focused airports. The company took over the management of the airport on July 28, 2017 and has agreed on a concession contract for several improvements to the Passenger Terminal infrastructure.
Covering a total area of 850,000 m² in the north of Porto Alegre, the airport complex has its own road access system. Avenida Severo Dullius, the access road to the airport, connects with Avenida dos Estados, complement of BR-116. The entire structure is divided into a passenger terminal and an administrative building.
It was the first airport managed by Infraero to have an integrated check-in system. The airport has an Instrument Landing System (ILS) Category II at head 11 (west), allowing landings with a minimum horizontal visibility of 400 meters. The system is very useful in the periods between June and August, when a huge number of morning arrivals are delayed or canceled due to fog.
