Lelystad Airport is located 3,5 NM south of the city of Lelystad and 23 NM east of Amsterdam. It’s located right in the center of the Netherlands and a perfect location to start from for a scenic flight in this beautiful country.
With 103. 000 flights (2018), Lelystad Airport is the largest general aviation airfield in the Netherlands and the busiest in terms of flight movements after Schiphol Amsterdam Airport. With 103. 000 flights (2018), Lelystad Airport is the largest general aviation airfield in the Netherlands and the busiest in terms of flight movements after Schiphol Amsterdam Airport. The airfield is popular with flight clubs and flight schools and serves as a major training center for both fixed wing and rotary aircraft.
Lelystad Airport is also home to the national aviation museum Aviodrome, which host the annual FS Weekend. The museum has a great number of aircraft on static display. Most prominent is the former KLM Boeing 747-200SUD, which dominates the skyline of the airfield.
Although they do not operate scheduled flights out of the airfield, Lelystad Airport is the base of AIS Airlines. The airline has its maintenance facility and crew training center located on the south west side of the airport.
Detailed exhibition Aviodrome
The national aviation museum Aviodrome provides a wide variety of aircraft on static display, as well as a replica of the 1928 Schiphol terminal building.
Modelled interiors
On 31 March 2015, parliament and the Dutch government approved the Schiphol Group’s expansion plans for Lelystad Airport. Although the works has almost been completed, there are no commercial flights departing from the airfield as of yet. The new terminal building has been modelled to its current state.
