The airport is owned by the City of Fort Worth and managed by Alliance Air Services, a subsidiary of Hillwood Development, and is, in size, the second-largest airport facility in North Texas, behind only Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. The airport is mainly focused on cargo operations and serves as a southern regional hub for FedEx Express and a focus city for Amazon Air. It provides no major commercial passenger airline service, though it does provide general aviation services. It formerly served as a maintenance hub for Fort Worth-based American Airlines. Billed as the world's first purely industrial airport, it was developed in a joint venture between the City of Fort Worth, the Federal Aviation Administration, and the Hillwood Development Company, a real estate development company owned by Ross Perot Jr. The official groundbreaking ceremonies were held in July 1988, and the airport officially opened on December 14, 1989.

There are mountains off the south end of the runway that tower up to more than 10,000 feet MSL. The rapidly rising terrain forms a restricting funnel that can trap the unwary pilot flying a marginally performing aircraft southbound. The airport can be challenging with unpredictable weather and harsh terrain but, still an amazing airport to fly at. Several aviation magazines routinely list KTVL in the top 10 USA General Aviation airports to visit.
Beginning in 1962 it had a few airline flights: the first were on Futura Airlines, an intrastate airline, and on Paradise Airlines, both flying Lockheed L-049 Constellations. According to the Official Airline Guide, six regional and commuter airlines were serving Lake Tahoe in spring 1981 including Air Sierra, Aspen Airways, Cal Sierra Airlines, Golden Gate Airlines, Golden West Airlines and Great Sierra Airlines with a combined total of up to 24 flights a day. The April 1, 1981 OAG edition lists nonstop flights from Burbank, Fresno, Los Angeles, Oakland, Orange County, Reno, San Diego, San Francisco, San Jose and Truckee, CA. Due to budget cuts in 2001, the FAA ceased funding on-site weather observers who had also served as the airport's air traffic controllers. Unable to find replacement funding, the South Lake Tahoe city council voted to close the airport's Air Traffic Control Tower on October 1, 2004. Despite the tower's closure, the airport continues to serve general aviation traffic using self-announce procedures for uncontrolled airports. Beginning in 2006, the airport's former commercial airline terminal building was renovated and converted into a new city hall and administrative services office for the City of South Lake Tahoe. Relocating to airport land allowed the city to counter rising lease costs at their old location near Al-Tahoe. Renovations completed and the new city hall opened in 2007.

The Buochs Airport (ICAO code LSZC Mil: LSMU) is a regional airport in the town of Buochs in the Canton of Nidwalden in Switzerland; home of the famous Pilatus Aircraft factory. It has a concrete runway with a length of 2000m (6561ft) and a width of 40m (131ft). The airport is situated in a beautiful location, flanked by five large mountains and nestled right up to the large idyllic Lake Lucerne. Pilatus has been producing their iconic aircraft at Buochs since 1939. The airfield was also chosen to house Swiss Air Force planes beginning during WWII. The location was chosen for its strategic placement and took advantage of the mountains by building secret embedded hangars into the mountainside. Up until 2003 the airport remained an active Swiss Air Force base, housing Mirage III, occasionally F-5 and F-18 aircraft. Many of the grass covered aircraft shelters can still be seen around the airfield and the site remains in a “reserve” status that could readily be reactivated. The airport is perfectly situated for many types of flying in the simulator. It has a wonderful glider facility with excellent soaring opportunities and many other scenic airports and sites nearby. Several notable places to fly to or from Buochs are: LSZS, Samaden, 65 nm SE; LSZH, Zurich, 30 nm N; the Matterhorn Mountain peak 65 nm SW; and for a difficult steeped sloped landing experience, LFHM, Megeve, 100 nm SW. This scenery will be a perfect addition to come and pick up your new PC-12 or PC-24 from the factory once released for the Sim!
