As one of the largest commercial airfields in Germany, Schönhagen is developing into the most important reliever airfield for the capital’s Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER/EDDB). With around 45,000 aircraft movements and almost 300 jobs across 41 companies, Schönhagen is one of the region’s key economic hubs. Surrounded by the picturesque forests, heathlands, and lakes of the Nuthe-Nieplitz Nature Park, Schönhagen Airport is an ideal location for renowned flight schools, flying clubs, and restaurants.
Whether for established companies such as Cirrus or Aquila, Schönhagen offers optimal hangar space for aircraft maintenance and development. The airfield is not just a hub for air traffic but also an important research facility. Projects such as ITEAL (Innovative Fuels for Low-Emission Air Traffic) and ALADIN (Advanced Low Altitude Data Information System) demonstrate the airfield’s involvement in cutting-edge research and development.
The Schönhagen airfield scenery is packed with intricate details and animations to explore. The add-on includes five special features: EDAZ Airfield, Heliport Groß Kreutz, Helipad Hospital Luckenwalde, an animated helicopter at BER, and the World Balloon at Potsdamer Platz.
Discover a new level of detail—this scenery is highly dynamic, changing based on the time of day, day of the week, and season. Many environmental elements, such as ice, lawnmowers, joggers, and cyclists, respond to factors like temperature, rain, and snow, ensuring no two days are the same. At the Groß Kreutz railway station, original station announcements can be heard, and a level crossing features animated barriers. Additionally, a fully animated signal system changes from red to green as trains pass. At the Luckenwalde hospital, an ambulance approaches the helipad (500 meters away) to pick up a patient.
There is so much more to experience and explore—don’t miss out on this adventure!

Magdeburg airport does not publish METARs, the nearest weather station is Magdeburg-Cochstedt Airport, which is 28 km away. The flight information region (FIR) is Bremen.
The airport has two parallel runways: 9/27 (asphalt and grass) 30 metres wide and 1000 metres long (the grass runway is 700 metres long). In 2001, it was decided to extend the runway running in a west-east direction to 1800 m. Due to a lack of finances, the expansion plans have been on hold since 2005. With effect from January 1, 2009, the operation of the airfield was leased from the municipal airport Magdeburg GmbH to the private FMB Flugplatz Magdeburg Betriebsgesellschaft mbH for an initial period of 10 years.
There are neither charter nor scheduled flights. The runway is too short for some of the jets in question. The airfield is used primarily by aviation enthusiasts (glider pilots, parachutists), ultralight pilots and private pilots as well as for sightseeing flights.
Have a good lunch at SKADI'S restaurant and tour the Tupolev 134 before taking off from this awesome airport.

It is located in Klotzsche, a district of Dresden 9 km (5. 6 mi) north of the city centre. It was known in German as Flughafen Dresden-Klotzsche. Destinations from the airport include a few European cities and several holiday destinations.
The airport was opened to commercial traffic on 11 July 1935.
Though planned as a commercial airport, its importance to the military increased dramatically during the Third Reich. During World War II it was exclusively used for military purposes. An airlift between the airport and Breslau (modern day Wrocław) was established to support German troops during the Siege of Breslau in the spring of 1945. Attempts to destroy buildings and equipment before Allied troops could occupy Dresden failed due to the resistance of civil airport employees.
During the following years, the airport was used as an education centre for the Soviet army. It was reopened for commercial traffic on 16 June 1957. In 1959 international air traffic resumed, primarily to Eastern Bloc countries.
Between 1955 and 1961, the East German government decided to develop its own aviation industry centred on Dresden. Although this development ultimately failed, it increased the importance of Klotzsche Airport considerably, and still shapes the design and atmosphere of the airport today.
