Located on the South coast between the cities of Southampton and Portsmouth, Solent Airport began its history in 1917 as a Naval seaplane training school. Training continued throughout both World Wars, with the airfield being commissioned “HMS Daedalus” in 1939.
By the 1960’s, HMS Daedalus began hovercraft trials to test hovercraft for interservice military uses. These trials continued until 1982 before being closed. Today, the hovercraft museum offers visitors the chance to browse the largest collection of hovercraft in the world.
HMS Daedalus was formally closed in 1996, but brought back into existence when Fareham Borough Council purchased the site in 2015. It was officially renamed Solent Airport in 2016.
Today, Solent Airport is a busy civilian airfield, with local flight schools Phoenix Aviation and Hampshire Aeroplane Club, the HM Coastguard Search and Rescue and Spitfires. com all calling it their home.
Solent Airport has been faithfully recreated by Burning Blue Design undertaking on-site visits. We have also collaborated with actual pilots based at Solent to ensure the highest levels of accuracy. It features:
- Over 200 custom 3D objects each with full Physical Based Rendering (PBR) textures.
- Accurate runways, taxiways and custom taxi signs
- Updated with 2024 Runway and Taxiway lighting, including working PAPI
- Highly detailed control tower, café and hangar interiors
- Animated hangar doors which close at night (open manually with Taxi Lights):
- Phoenix Aviation Hangar – Parking 2
- Hangar P – Parking 29
- ATAviation Hangar – Parking 37
- Hangar F – Parking 44
- 3 Helipads
- Completely custom windsock and dynamic animated flags
- Animated spectators
- Optimised to blend in with local Photogrammetry
- Real-life static aircraft seen at Solent:
- Phoenix Aviation Ikarus C42 (G-OKTA and G-PAPI) and Piper PA-28 Warrior II (G-BOHA)
- Britten-Norman Trilander and Defenders
- HM Coastguard AgustaWestland AW169 (G-MCGO)
- Supermarine Spitfire Mk IX’s (G-ILDA and G-IRTY)
- Cessna F150F Mike Charlie (G-ATMC)
- Accurate night lighting and dynamic weather compatibility

- Transparent and translucent glass panes can appear very dark when subject to particle effects such as rain, snow and fog. This is a known bug that Asobo/Microsoft are aware of and will hopefully fix in the near future.
- In rare occasions the North-side custom ground imagery can be covered by the default photogrammetry ground textures. Symptoms are a clear line between green and brown grass colour close to the Queen Elizabeth Platinum Jubilee Park. Possible workarounds for when this issue is encountered are returning to the main menu and reloading into the airfield, or by turning photogrammetry off, then back on. We continue to investigate the root cause of this behaviour.

It played a crucial role in training pilots for the war effort, and after the war, it was used for civil aviation and recreational flying. During World War II, the aerodrome was once again requisitioned for military use and served as a base for the Royal Air Force’s 38 Group. It played a key role in Operation Market Garden, the largest airborne operation in history. After the war, the aerodrome was returned to civilian use and was taken over by the British Automobile Racing Club (BARC) in 1950. The BARC developed the site into a racing circuit, which has hosted many prestigious races, including the British Touring Car Championship and the British Formula 3 Championship.
In the 1960s, the aerodrome was used for testing the Blue Streak missile, intended to be a nuclear deterrent for the UK. Today, it is primarily used for flying lessons, air displays, and private aviation. The circuit remains a popular venue for motorsport events, with its high-speed corners and challenging layout providing a thrilling experience for drivers and spectators alike.
Thruxton Aerodrome and Race Circuit have been faithfully recreated by Burning Blue Design undertaking on-site visits, ensuring the highest levels of accuracy. It features:

In the early 1970’s the land alongside the A303 was purchased by Jim Espin, a member of the Hampshire Strut of the Popular Flying Association. With the aid of fellow members of the Strut, the land was cleared, levelled, seeded and transformed into an airstrip. The original strip is now the 26/08 runway of the present airfield. In 1978, the airfield was purchased by Charles Church, an avid collector of Spitfires. A second runway was added and the airfield was expanded to include additional hangers.
Today, Popham Airfield welcomes over 10,000 visitors annually and is famous for hosting many events over the year, including the Microlight trade fair in May, the annual Motorcycle Mega Meet, Classic Car Show and Vintage Aircraft Fly-in in August and the New Year’s Day Fly-in.
It is also home to the world’s only “Ikarus C42 As” flight training simulator. This allows the Popham-based flight school, AirBourne Aviation (www. flyMAC. co. uk), to offer flight training to its students no matter the weather conditions. This makes AirBourne Aviation the UK’s ONLY all-weather flight school.
Popham Airfield has been painstakingly recreated by Burning Blue Design’s modellers and coders undertaking multiple on-site visits and flights. We have worked in collaboration with AirBourne Aviation to ensure the highest levels of accuracy. It features:
- Over 160 custom 3D objects have been created exclusively for Popham airfield, each with full Physical Based Rendering (PBR) allowing for extremely realistic textures.
- Thousands of carefully placed stock assets, every cone, car, sign and fence has been placed in it’s correct location ensuring an atmosphere of a working airfield.
- High resolution colour corrected ground textures taken from Bing maps and manipulated for consistency and realism which far surpasses the quality of the stock Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 ground texture.
- Working custom Signal Square, which accurately shows the most suitable runway for the wind conditions.
- Dynamic smoke effects, signs and car park, which change realistically depending on the time of day.
- New control tower built in 2020.
- Based on 2023 layout with over 30 new hangars
- Numerous custom aircraft have been added around Popham to enhance the realism and better reflect actual aircraft found at the airfield:
- Ikarus C42 (AirBourne Aviation school aircraft: G-CCYR and G-CDVI)
- Spitfire F Mk. Ia
- Yakovlev Yak-52 (G-YAKI and G-YAKX – both real aircraft based at Popham)
- Yakovlev Yak-12
- De Havilland Chipmunk
- Correct AI pattern procedures and accurate taxiway and runway placement have been incorporated into the airfield.
- Key navigational landmarks in the surrounding area have been included:
- White Arrow – used by pilots to line up on the offset approach to 26
- Water Tower
- Grain Silos at Micheldever
- Polytunnels – marking the downwind leg of the 08-26 circuit
- BP and Esso fuel stations
- Starbucks (A303 North and South)
- Popham MX Track
- Test Valley Golf Course
- In honour of the car and motorcycle events hosted at Popham, the car park includes:
- 1946 Vespa scooter
- 1955 Volkswagen Transporter ‘T1’
- 1963 Austin Mini
- 1970 Porsche 911
- 1990 Mazda MX-5 ‘Mk1’
- 2017 Yamaha YZF-R3

Bodmin Airfield was the development of a dream by local business man, Mike Robertson, founder of Trago Mills, to make aviation available to everyone. In pursuit of this dream, local engineers, The Dingle Brothers were commissioned to construct the airfield on what was once Treswithick Farm. In 1972, the airfield was bought by the Cornwall Flying Club, which, in 1978, became a limited company, Cornwall Flying Club Ltd. In keeping with the original ideals and dreams of its creator, Cornwall Flying Club operates as a non-profit organisation.
It was here that Trago Mills designed and built the Trago Mills SAH-1 in the early 1980s. The SAH-1 derived its name from its designer, Sydney A. Holloway.
The airfield is also home to Cornwall Aviation Services, an aircraft maintenance business.
Bodmin Airfield has been accurately recreated by Burning Blue Design’s modellers and coders with on-site visits, and features:
- Over 30 custom 3D objects have been created exclusively for Bodmin airfield, each with full Physical Based Rendering (PBR) textures.
- Realistic dirt, grime, dust and rust can be seen exactly where it should be, with on-site visits carried out by the team.
- Custom runway terraforming.
- High resolution colour corrected ground textures.
- Working custom Signal Square and Windsocks.
- Control tower and cafe interiors.
- Open hangar parking spot.
- Dynamic scenery objects, which change realistically depending on the time of day.
- Custom aircraft have been included around Bodmin to reflect actual aircraft found at the airfield:
- Cessna 172 Skyhawk (G-EGLA – Bodmin Airfield Flight Training)
- Ikarus C42 (G-CIFZ – Air Cornwall Flight School)
- Correct AI pattern procedures and accurate taxiway placement.

- Transparent and translucent glass panes can appear very dark when subject to particle effects such as rain, snow and fog. This is a known bug that Asobo/Microsoft are aware of and will hopefully fix in the near future.
- Grass is too long – this bug has been introduced by Sim Update 5 and Asobo are aware. We are unable to control grass length in the latest SDK.
- Fuel scenery items cannot be hidden. There is a working fuel parking spot towards the back of Bodmin. Unfortunately Asobo have not provided a way to hide the automatically generated fuel items, so they are hidden behind some bushes until this is fixed.

Fairoaks opened as a private airstrip in 1931, but was used by the military from 1936 and became RAF Fairoaks during World War II. It was used as a training airfield, with No. 18 Elementary & Reserve Flying School equipped with De Havilland Tiger Moths. 6,000 pilots were trained at the airfield. In 1968 the Alan Mann Group took control of the airfield, later constructing the hard runway in 1979.
In 2015, it was announced that the airport would be closed to build a 1,500 unit housing development to be known as “Fairoaks Garden Village”. This has resulted in a years-long battle to save this historic airport. On 15 February 2022, the original control tower was decommissioned, being replaced by a temporary control room provided by Helipad Aviation Services located adjacent to taxiway B. Recent works to the west side of the airport, have also put taxiway A out of action.
Fairoaks Airport has been accurately recreated by Burning Blue Design’s modellers and coders with on-site visits, and features:
- Over 80 custom 3D objects have been created exclusively for Fairoaks airport, each with full Physical Based Rendering (PBR) textures.
- Based on 2022 layout of Fairoaks.
- Includes new ‘temporary’ control tower adjacent to taxiway B.
- High resolution colour corrected ground textures.
- Working custom Windsocks.
- Open hangar parking and café interiors.
- Also included is ‘Firebird 3’, in honour of the retired Ford F-150 which was based at Fairoaks until 2019.
- Dynamic scenery and lighting, which change realistically depending on the time of day and weather.
- Correct Tower frequency, AI pattern procedures and accurate taxiway placement. (Taxiway A has been left active to reflect a fully operational airport)
- McLaren Technology Centre and Production Centre POI.

First purchased by American Airlines, the type began regular flights in 1988. With ETOPS certifications the jet has been popular flying across the Atlantic, and you may still see them flying these routes, all these years later. In 2014 the last 767-300ER passenger variant was delivered after many years of production, and as of 2024, 23 airlines still use them in their operations. Being such an important plane for the aviation industry, it has also found its place among flight simmers.
The RHDSimulations 767-300ER for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 has been made from start to fit the quality standards of this new generation flight simulator.

Flysimware’s Nieuport 24 is a WW1 bi-plane.
The Nieuport 24 had the misfortune to be the penultimate design suited to tactics that were being superseded when it entered service. Its small size, relatively light weight and small engine gave it a significant manoeuverability advantage in a dog fight. However, larger and heavier fighters that relied almost entirely on speed such as the SPAD VII and Albatros D. III were entering service along with the introduction of ever larger combat formations, which generally negated its manoeuverability. While its handling was improved slightly, its performance was little better than the previous Nieuport 23 it was meant to replace, and so it was operated alongside larger numbers of the SPAD S. VII, although in November 1917, out of a French frontline fighter strength of 754 aircraft, Nieuports still made up 310 aircraft. Operational Nieuport 24’s served with French, British and Russian units, and the type also served widely as an advanced trainer.
Set your joystick fire button to the tailhook switch so you can use the machine gun which includes sound effects. Set the blip switch to the right 1 magneto to keep the idle low. Choose from 6 paint themes or use our paint kit to design your own custom personal look. Remember to pump the fuel pump to 7 psi or more to ensure you have fuel pressure to start the 135 hp Le Rhône rotary engine.
Ported Products
Ported planes are planes that were previously released on FSX and P3D. Plans for ported plans is to improve the model, textures using Substance and improving flight dynamics all done in house. Most ported planes will use Sim Acoustics to bring you the best possible sound quality. Both original and ported planes come with the new flight dynamics (non legacy). They will not have features like interactive checklists, icing effects, saved state and maybe more. This allows us to quickly port over these products faster as we have a huge list of ported planes coming. In return flysimware is charging a very low fee. So not only are ported planes improved products with the FSW name on it but you are going to pay a fraction of the original price. These ported products will be some of your favorite aircraft in your hangar for years to come!
