In the year 2019, Aena took administration of the airport from the state company Infraero. Aena planned a rehaul of the terminal and airport, and during the year 2023, Aracaju Airport underwent construction processes of the rehaul, and in June 2024, an inauguration took place marking the end of the rehaul construction process.

The airport not only consists of its passenger area, but also has general aviation operations and serves as a military air base for FAB (Brazilian Air Force) operations. On March 2019, AENA took administration from the national state company Infraero, and won a 30-year concession to operate the airport. In 2023, started implementing an ambitious rehaul of the airport, which included the demolition and repositioning of the general aviation hangars, to give space to a whole new apron and passenger terminal expansion.
