Lukla is a quaint town nestled in the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu rural municipality of the Solukhumbu District, within Province No. 1 of northeastern Nepal. Perched at an elevation of 2,860 meters (9,383 feet) above sea level, it serves as a gateway for adventurers heading to the majestic Himalayas and the iconic Mount Everest.
This charming village is home to a small yet vital airport that connects the region to the outside world. The village itself is dotted with a variety of shops and lodges, offering western-style meals and essential trail supplies to the throngs of tourists and trekkers who pass through. From Lukla, it takes travelers approximately two days to reach Namche Bazaar, a crucial stop for altitude acclimatization before continuing their journey.
The airport in Lukla boasts a single asphalt runway measuring 527 meters (1,729 feet), making it one of the shortest commercial runways globally. In August 2014, the Nepalese government unveiled plans to construct the first tarmac road linking Kathmandu to Lukla, a significant development for the region.
Lukla is served by the Tenzing-Hillary Airport, where, weather permitting, twin-engine Dornier 228s and de Havilland Canada Twin Otters make frequent daylight flights between Lukla and Kathmandu. The airport's short and steep airstrip, combined with often treacherous weather conditions, has earned it the reputation of being the most dangerous airport in the world, with several fatal accidents recorded over the years.
This scenery addon is an improvement in and outside Lukla extending all the way to Thulo Gumela, Tok Tok and Yeti Mountain Home in Kongde. Bring out your Helicopter landing skills as there is a lot of places to challenge yourself along the way.

Gateway to Mount Everest and World's Most Dangerous Airport; an airport so full of extremes that it is not only known by hardcore aviation enthusiasts anymore but has become a phenomenon among influencers, travel bloggers and documentaries.
Truth be told: There are airports that are higher. There may be airports that have a shorter runway. There even may be airstrips somewhere that have an even worse upwards slope of the runway. Or others that have a mountain wall at the end of its runway. What makes Lukla stand out is a combination of all those factors in one single airport!
Not enough thrill for you? Count in weather as a factor. No navigational aids. Limited documentation of approach and take-off routes. An uncontrolled airspace with fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters.
This package is a newly developed version of "Lukla - Mount Everest Extreme" by the same developer: one of our most popular sceneries of the past two decades that has won many awards – among them the Simflight Award. This new version is setting the bar even higher again. More details, more animations, more of the real Lukla!
- Detailed 3D terrain model of Lukla airport with high-resolution photorealistic textures
- Newly constructed Lukla Helipad with terminal building
- Newly constructed terminal extension with interiors
- Recently erected Tenzing-Hillary statue and gardens right next to the runway
- Lots of animated people, animals, creek along the runway
- Animated ground service ATV
- Realistic night lighting
- Various typical sounds
- Detailed manual
- CONS: No flat runway ;-)

Phaplu is the closest airport to Mount Everest that is connected to the national road network. Due to rising tourist numbers there are more and more scheduled flights to this airport which is not only another Gateway to Everest but in itself a beautiful destination nested into a lush green landscape.
The airport has an interesting location along a slope with an apron carved into the terrain and the tower and terminal on top of a high wall that follows the runway. Be cautious when taxiing here as you wouldn‘t be the first pilot there who‘s wingtip would touch the wall! Approaches to the airport however are troubled by the harsh wind conditions in the valley. Due to strong wind the airport closes at noon, which means that flights are only happening in the morning hours when the weather is usually suitable for flying. Gusts of 43 knots have been recorded here.
As a bonus there’s another challenging airport included in this package: Kangel Danda, which is spectacularly located on top of a mountain between Rumjatar and Lukla. At both ends of the runway there are steep cliffs letting you gain ground clearance quickly without even climbing.
Recently there have been plans to re-commence scheduled flights here since the coms equipment got destroyed by a thunderstorm and little efforts have been made to repair it for years. The goats grazing the airport are happy using is as a welcome pasture.
- Detailed 3D terrain models of Phaplu and Kangel Danda airports with high resolution photorealistic textures
- Newly constructed Phaplu secondary apron
- Monastery
- Lots of animated people and animals
- Animated ground traffic (check out the tuktuks!)
