In 2018, the airport was allocated 6. 6 billion baht to build a third terminal, renovate the existing two terminals and car park, and expand aircraft parking bays and associated electrical power infrastructure. In 2019, the Department of Airports announced a project to double the airport's capacity to eight million passengers per year. The airport will no longer be expanded after its final phase of expansion due to lack of space and the city's expansion, and will not be able to cope with the future traffic.
P-47D Thunderbolt 'Razorback'

The P-47D ( or the Jug as it was affectionately known ) was one of the heaviest fighters of World War 2 with a fully laden P-47 topping the scales at a portly 8 tonnes. This weight required a very powerful engine. The same engine that powered the F6F Hellcat and the Vought Corsair, the Pratt and Whitney R2800. Coupled with an impressive load out capability and very capable 50 Calibre machine guns the Thunderbolt resulted in a very capable medium range escort fighter and excellent ground attack fighter.
But there was an issue. Visibility. The Razorback whilst strong ( some returned safely with very large amounts of the plane damaged. ) had an issue with rear visibility. The fix was found by a visit to the RAF. The RAF also had this issue on some of their aircraft and had in fact lent their design for canopies to another famous USAAF aircraft the P51 ( also available ). In this case the answer lay in the Hawker Typhoon with an all encompassing all round vision “bubble top”. And the razorback was retired from production in favour of the Bubbletop
P-47s were operated by several Allied Air Forces during World War II. The RAF for example received 240 razorback P-47Ds, which they designated Thunderbolt Mark I. Since there wasnt a need for a high-altitude fighter in the RAF ( the superb supermarine spitfire filling that role admirably ) the RAF used their Thunderbolts as ground attack. Rather like the Fairchild Republic A-10 thunderbolt in use today. And yes the A-10 takes its name from its WW2 grandfather - The P47-D "Thunderbolt".

The airport has a total capacity of up to 16 million passengers per year and has flights to 81 destinations in 31 countries.
NetDesign has painstakingly recreated the entire airport with upwards of 40 custom models including the four terminals, various buildings, vehicles, aircraft and objects. Extensive rework of auto-generated areas behind the airport has been done to blend it with the main terminal areas. The accompanying DAAG Scenery pack features key landmarks such as Maqam Echahid (Martyrs' Memorial) and Nelson Mandela Stadium which is flown over during the runway 09 approach. The crown jewel is a striking recreating of Djamaa el Djazaïr (the Great Mosque of Algiers), the billion-Euro megaproject which was both controversial for its cost and award-winning for its beautiful architecture. It features a 265 m (869 ft) tall minaret making it the tallest building in Africa and the tallest minaret in the world. Both the mosque and stadium feature real-life helicopter pads which are available as starting positions in the simulator.

- High technical accuracy thanks to much input from the Algerian sim community and aviation professionals
- Very high resolution PBR textures ensuring no loss of detail even when viewing up close
- Multiple texture layers simulating dirt and wear and tear in key areas
- See through interiors optimized to be viewed from outside
- High FPS performance even with AI traffic enabled, achieved by using LODs and middle-out compression
- Carefully applied night lighting to showcase the glass terminals

Marco Island Airport covers an area of 140 acres (57 ha) and contains one asphalt runway (17/35): 5,000 ft × 100 ft (1,524 m × 30 m). Currently, the airport is home to several local flight schools, public air charters, aircraft maintenance providers and the Marco Island Squadron of the United States Civil Air Patrol.
The Airport underwent a $15 million terminal redevelopment initiative to construct a new, two-story terminal building as the old terminal was located within an unsafe distance from Runway 17/35. The project's construction commenced in April 2018 and was completed in 2020.

It has provided an airfield for fighters in the First World War, bombers during the Second World War and V-force Avro Vulcans during the Cold War. The station was temporarily closed in 1996, but subsequently re-opened to provide a home for the RAF Aerobatic Team the Red Arrows, and to private companies, temporarily, such as Hawker Hunter Aviation, for the maintenance and storage of aircraft. In July 2018, the Ministry of Defence announced that Scampton would close and be sold, with all units relocated elsewhere. The station closed on 31 March 2023.
