FASZ Skukuza Airport New

From here, travellers can embark on thrilling game drives to spot the iconic Big Five – lions, elephants, rhinos, leopards, and buffalo – roaming freely across the vast African wilderness. For added convenience, visitors can fly directly into Skukuza Airport, allowing them to begin their safari adventure almost immediately after landing.
Airlink, a local South African Airline has flights twice daily to Skukuza Airport from Johannesburg International. In theory it is possible to arrive at Cape Town airport in the morning and have your first game drive that evening in the Kruger National Park.

New Tempe Airport is situated 10km (6. 6 miles) north-northwest from the Bloemfontein City Centre, in the Free State province of South Africa. The airport consists of two asphalt runways as well as two glider strips and taxi/micro-light landing strips next to the main runways.
The facility offers hangars and airstrips for light to medium sized aeroplanes, helicopters, micro-lights, gyrocopters, and high-altitude gliders. Upington Airport was opened in 1968 as Pierre van Ryneveld Airport. From August 1976 to December 1982, South African Airways made use of Upington as a refuelling station for two weekly scheduled Boeing 747 flights to London and ZĂĽrich, which is why it has such a long runway. The runway was built to accommodate a Boeing 747 with a full load of passengers, cargo and fuel, so that it could take off for Europe without having to stop along the way.
In 2006, Upington Airport was updated into a major cargo hub to serve sub-Saharan Africa directly from South Africa's Northern Cape Province. In 2009 a facility was constructed to serve as long-term parking of mothballed (decommissioned) aircraft. Both the improved cargo area and the area for decommissioned aircraft are shown in this scenery package.
As of now, the airport has a modern terminal building and serves as a connection for Airlink flights to and from Upington.

During the 1930’s, the City Council of Pretoria decided to build a landing strip on the farm Wonderboom, approximately 15 km (9. 3 mi) north of Pretoria. This was the beginning of Wonderboom Airport (FAWB) and the landing strip was open for air traffic in 1937. Over the years, the airports have been extensively upgraded and the runway lengthened to handle bigger aircraft. With the coming of World War II the land the aerodrome sat on was donated to aid the war effort by Sir David Graaff, on condition his estate would be consulted should it ever be used for non-military purposes. During and after the World War II Ysterplaat was used as a maintenance and assembly depot for aircraft.
Today, due to increased budgetary restrictions, all activity at the base has basically come to a halt. There were plans to convert the base into a civilian airport with a military presence, but no decisions have been taken yet.

This airport played a significant role in the birth of Flight Simulator as we know it today as in 1976, Bruce Artwick, who was a student at the University of Illinois, wrote a thesis on computer flight simulation. He commercialised his ideas the next year and started writing a program called SubLogic Flight Simulator. He took flight lessons from Willard Airport to better understand the dynamics of flight and that is why Willard airport was the default start location for the program and all the flight lessons included in the package. This program was ported to the PC and became Microsoft Flight Simulator V1. 0 in 1982 and the rest is history.
