It is located on the banks of the Transamazon Highway at 3. 5 km — towards the bridge over the Itacaiúnas River to Itupiranga — in the Quindangues district, in the urban core of Cidade Nova.
History
The history of the airport in Marabá dates back to the 1930s, when Brigadier Lysias Augusto Rodrigues and engineer Américo Barbosa de Oliveira, led the opening and construction of a landing strip in the future area of Nova Marabá. The inauguration is marked by the arrival of the first aircraft, a single-engine Waco CSO C-27, from Correio Aéreo Nacional, piloted by Brigadier Rodrigues, on November 17, 1935.
In 1940 and 1946, the runway was expanded and started to be managed by the Brazilian Air Force (FAB), serving as an auxiliary air base during World War II. Asphalt would only come in 1966/1967.
With the imminence of the use of the Nova Marabá area for the construction of the future city of Marabá, the airstrip was transferred in 1973, by the FAB and the Superintendence for the Development of the Amazon (SUDAM), to Cidade Nova, at the back of the traditional neighborhood from Amapá.
Until 1978, João Correa da Rocha Airport had a precarious take-off and landing strip, and its movement was carried out by Douglas DC-3 aircraft and air taxis.
The connection with the city center was poor, given its location beyond the Itacaiúnas River, which separates the airport from the historic center of the city. At that time there was no road bridge over this river and the traffic of people and vehicles took place by boats and ferries, which made its use and development extremely difficult.
The donation contract from the Municipality of Marabá to the Federal Government was defined on September 14, 1977 (Process filed with the Ministry of Finance under No. MF 0768-81. 479/69). The new airport structure was built by the Ministry of Aeronautics, through the Amazon Airports Commission (COMARA). It opened on May 20, 1978.
On November 3, 1980, the Brazilian Airport Infrastructure Company (Infraero) took over the airport, setting up in the same decade one of the most valuable Brazilian air bridges in that period, connecting Marabá to the Serra Pelada gold mining zone, with regular flights.
In 2010, in honor of journalist João Corrêa da Rocha, founder of the newspaper Notícias de Marabá, Marabá airport was named after him.

This scenery expansion adds some important detail and also makes it possible to use flight planners in MSFS, whether LittleNavMap or the default FS map. Now your flights have a new destination and departure, enhanced by terraforming, lighting, new docks and support buildings.
This pack includes Rivers Inlet, Shearwater (Bella-Bella), Pitt Meadows, Port Hardy, Port Alberni and Victoria CYYJ, adding the float dock at the airport. It made special sense to add this last one, for flights out of Vancouver Harbor in your favorite float plane.
Victoria is the capital of the province of British Columbia and it sits on the southern tip of Vancouver Island on the Saanich Peninsula. With a population of 90,000 in the metropolitan area, the Greater Victoria area sits around 360,000. With nearly a mediterranean climate and annual rainfall considerably less than soggy Vancouver, its a year round destination for travelers.
Victoria Airport sits on the north end of the Saanich Peninsula. This expansion adds the float dock on the west side of the airport as well as buildings and terraforming.
Pitt Meadows on the Fraser River lies just east of metro Vancouver. Its a transition point for those heading for locations up the coast or in the BC interior.
Port Alberni is a deep port city lying at the head of Alberni Inlet. Forestry is the chief employment. Port Alberni, central in the island, is an air hub for traffic north and west in particular. Fishing charters from this port city are famous.
Port Hardy is the gateway to Cape Scott Provincial Park, but also offers access to spectacular wilderness destinations, with kayaking, scuba diving, fishing and camping being a few. It also serves as an air hub for destinations north and east.
Rivers Inlet is set in a beautiful fjord off Fitz hugh Sound, about 125 km southwest of Bella Coola, and about 65 km north of Vancouver Island. It has a well known salmon run that attracts sportsment, and its also a destination for loggers.
Bella Bella (Shearwater) sits on the east coastline of Campbell Island, about 180km north of Port Hardy. It sits on the Inside Passage, a major sea transportation route linking the area to all regions north including Alaska. The resumption of ferry service and a major air route from Port Hardy contributed to the towns revival.
This version of these bases assumes photogrammetry is ON. Things will look odd otherwise. The scenery does use terraforming but terraforming near water is far from perfect.
There are 3 flight plans including using two of the new float bases. You will also need to DL the CYSE float base and scenery for CYSE at Flightsim. to (link is included). Setup instructions are also included for LittleNavMap.
