The "Flying Barrel" was not to see combat, being superceded by the new generation of monoplane ship-board fighters, the Grumman F4F Wildcat around the time of the attack on Pearl Harbour.
In 1936, a special Grumman F3F-1 was built by the factory for Major Alford “ Al” Williams, head of aviation for Gulf Oil Company and well-known aerobatic display pilot. The aeroplane was flown as a demonstrator for Gulf Oil (and Grumman) and appeared at air-shows and military displays all over the U. S. before WW2.
Called “Gulfhawk II” and powered by a 1000hp version of the Cyclone, the aeroplane displayed its aerobatic capabilities, speed and strength to great effect. So much so that the airframe was not retired until 1948 when Williams flew it on its final flight to Washington, after which it was to take its rightful place in the now Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. Gulfhawk II is included in this package and would make an ideal starter for the Reno Races!

Cedar Key Airport, officially known as George T. Lewis Airport, is uniquely located on a small island at Daughtry Bajou, on Florida’s North-Eastern Gulf Coast, and is connected to the mainland via the main Airport Road bridge, popularly called the Fishing Bridge.
KCDK, a county-owned public-use airport, is situated roughly halfway between Tallahassee and Tampa, and about 1 nautical mile west of Cedar Key’s central business district (CBD), in Levy County, Florida, United States.
The US military opened the airport in 1936, primarily as an air sea rescue base during and after World War II. Cedar Key Airport sits at an elevation of about 3 m (11 ft) above sea level and covers an area of about 40 acres (16 ha). The airport has one main 718 x 30 meter (2355 by 100 feet) paved asphalt runway designated RWY 5 / RWY 23, with a displaced threshold on both sides, as well as one concrete helipad that is used by EMS and other rotary-wing aircraft.
The Cedar Key Airport area is surrounded by part of a large protected bird sanctuary, which is home to birds such as osprey, eagles, herons, egrets, buzzards, pelicans, and seagulls. Apparently there are even several osprey nests within the immediate area of the runway.

- Transparent and translucent glass panes can appear very dark when subject to particle effects such as rain, snow and fog. This is a known bug that Asobo/Microsoft are aware of and will hopefully fix in the near future.
- In rare occasions the North-side custom ground imagery can be covered by the default photogrammetry ground textures. Symptoms are a clear line between green and brown grass colour close to the Queen Elizabeth Platinum Jubilee Park. Possible workarounds for when this issue is encountered are returning to the main menu and reloading into the airfield, or by turning photogrammetry off, then back on. We continue to investigate the root cause of this behaviour.
