Focus and Limits
Instrument Simming 21st Century describes and explains advanced aviation knowledge needed for truly realistic instrument simulations. It applies to most aircraft, airports, airspaces, and simulators. It does not focus on any particular airport, aircraft, airspace, or simulator.
This manual is for home flight-simulation computer programs. It is based on real aviation laws, regulations, and procedures so home flight-simulation enthusiasts can maximize their enjoyment. Because some aspects of home flight-simulation games are not exactly like real-world aviation, some information in this book is not exactly like real flight. That is why Instrument Simming 21st Century is not intended for and should not be used for real-world flight or lessons. No liability is accepted for any misuse of this manual. – Bill Stack, author
Use Your Time Productively
Don’t lose valuable flight-simming opportunities searching the internet for flimsy freebies. Most are worth their cost. Ftldave says it best:
“YouTube is hit or miss. Sometimes there's great, informative content, other times the videos are useless and unintelligible. How much time do you want to spend searching for the former, how much time to waste with the latter? As is often said about open software, the same is true for this: It's free if your time has no value to you. ”
Flight simmers have trusted, benefitted, and enjoyed my instructional books since 1997.
Satisfaction Guaranteed
A lot of time and effort has been invested by me and others toward making a quality product that is useful to people. Any book with physical defects will be replaced at no cost. If you can show that the content of Instrument Simming 21st Century is not as described, your money will be refunded. If you find facts that you believe are in error, please let me know so I can evaluate them. – Bill Stack, Author

Cockpit2Ground replaces the default GSX ground crew audio with a complete, dynamic ground-to-cockpit communication system for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. Authentic phraseology, professional voice talent, regional accents and realistic radio effects turn every turnaround into something that sounds like real airline operations - from the first call at the gate through pushback, engine start and de-icing.
This is more than a sound pack. Cockpit2Ground actively reads your aircraft, your flight plan and your environment. It knows which engine start sequence your aircraft uses, whether the GSX tug is a towbar or towbarless type, whether it is raining, what time of day it is and where in the world you are parked. Every call is triggered by what is actually happening in your simulator, and you hear the cockpit crew respond as well - not just the ground crew.
With over 180 unique voices, eight fully localized language packs and airline-aware logic driven by SimBrief, no two departures sound the same.
Dynamic Communication
- Every call is triggered by real events in your aircraft, GSX, flight plan and environment
- Cockpit crew responses included in all phases, not just ground crew calls
- Interactive INT / intercom communication - turn up the volume knob in the virtual cockpit to hear the ground crew, and they will call or ring the cockpit if you do not answer
- Male and female voice sets, automatically matched to the GSX ground crew avatar
- Time-of-day phraseology with multiple variants for the same action, so every pushback sounds different
- Personalized sign-offs and flight wishes based on your flight, destination and time of day
Pushback & Engine Start
- Complete pushback workflow from headset connection to ready for taxi
- Towbar and towbarless pushback detected automatically, including the aircraft lifting procedure, with matching phraseology
- Aircraft-specific engine start profiles based on real-world procedures (A320: 1 to 2, B737: 2 to 1), fully customizable per aircraft with voice scripts adapting automatically
- Live engine parameter monitoring - the ground crew stays connected until the full start sequence is complete and the cockpit confirms a good start
- Actual off-block time announced during pushback, in UTC or your local PC time zone
- Automatic ground power disconnect - switch off external power in the cockpit and Cockpit2Ground commands the GSX operation for you
- Weather-based engine start delays for rain, snow and slippery surfaces
- Taxi-out positions supported where no pushback equipment is required
De-Icing & Arrival
- Completely redesigned de-icing and anti-icing communication with realistic procedures and phraseology
- Fluid type and concentration selected in GSX are recognized and called out
- Anti-icing start time reported before the ground crew releases you back to ATC
- Arrival ground handling continues after landing, covering ground power, chocks and confirmation that the aircraft is secured
Language & Regional Voice System
- Over 180 unique voices with authentic regional accents from around the world
- Fully localized language packs: English (base), German, French, Dutch, Italian, Spanish, Polish and Turkish
- Location and airline awareness - flying into Paris with Air France gives you French, while Lufthansa at the same airport triggers English
- SimBrief integration reads your airline, departure and destination airports to select the right language, accent and greetings
- Cockpit crew voice accents can be matched to the airline you are operating
Application & Audio
- Guided onboarding on first launch - configured and ready to fly in a few steps
- Live communication transcript showing who said what and when
- Status page for MSFS 2024, SimConnect, GSX and the active aircraft profile, plus version and changelog
- Independent radio effect configuration for ground and cockpit audio, with presets or fine-tuned manual settings
- Background noise and ambience control including radio static, PTT and click sounds
- Dedicated audio output device selection and crew call alerts so you never miss a ground crew call
- Volume control through the aircraft INT / intercom knob on supported aircraft
- Optional automatic start with Microsoft Flight Simulator and built-in automatic updates
- Option to hide GSX text messages for a clean simulator display
Important
- GSX by FSDreamTeam is required and must be legally purchased and installed for Cockpit2Ground to function
- Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 only

Upington Airport was opened in 1968 as Pierre van Ryneveld Airport. From August 1976 to December 1982, South African Airways made use of Upington as a refuelling station for two weekly scheduled Boeing 747 flights to London and Zürich, which is why it has such a long runway. The runway was built to accommodate a Boeing 747 with a full load of passengers, cargo and fuel, so that it could take off for Europe without having to stop along the way.
In 2006, Upington Airport was updated into a major cargo hub to serve sub-Saharan Africa directly from South Africa's Northern Cape Province. In 2009 a facility was constructed to serve as long-term parking of mothballed (decommissioned) aircraft. Both the improved cargo area and the area for decommissioned aircraft are shown in this scenery package.
As of now, the airport has a modern terminal building and serves as a connection for Airlink flights to and from Upington.

Designed for a wide range of operations, the C212 has been used for cargo transport, passenger flights, paratroop operations, and flights into short or remote airfields. The aircraft has a high-wing, fixed-gear, and unpressurized design, with a rear cargo ramp that makes it well suited to transport and utility work. The C212-200 introduced several improvements over the original -100, including more powerful engines and strengthened landing gear. The aircraft has since been operated by military and civilian operators around the world, including Indonesia, where the type was also produced under license by IPTN/PTDI. Project MAX C212-200 brings the Aviocar to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024, with a focus on its systems, handling, and everyday operation. The aircraft includes a custom EFB, detailed engine and propeller simulation, interactive systems, maintenance features, and several configuration options that let you set up the aircraft to suit different C212 variants and equipment. The aim is to make the C212 enjoyable to operate, whether you want to follow the aircraft's procedures closely or simply load up and fly.
