Thurrock Airfield
Nestled in the heart of Essex, Thurrock Airfield is a small, but busy general aviation airfield within the London commuter belt. Thurrock is easy to spot from the air with one of it’s hangers having had the word Thurrock painted in large bold letters on the roof. There is a thriving aircraft restoration and maintenance business at Thurrock and a small light aircraft graveyard with all sorts of plane parts tucked away behind the main hangars.
Despite these scattered aircraft parts, Thur... Nestled in the heart of Essex, Thurrock Airfield is a small, but busy general aviation airfield within the London commuter belt. Despite these scattered aircraft parts, Thurrock is a pretty little airfield with tidy hedges, abundant flowers in Spring and Summer and views across Essex all the way to Canary Wharf and The City of London.
Thurrock sports a deceptively narrow paved runway that has surprised many pilots into thinking it was further away than it actually is, and occasionally led to the occasional hard landing and subsequent landing gear inspection.
Thurrock has been faithfully recreated by Burning Blue Design, undertaking on-site visits to ensure the highest levels of accuracy. It features:
- Over 50 custom 3D objects each with full Physical Based Rendering (PBR) textures.
- Based on October 2023 layout.

- Animated hangar doors which close at night.

- Transparent and translucent glass panes can appear very dark when subject to particle effects such as rain, snow and fog. This is a known bug that Asobo/Microsoft are aware of and will hopefully fix in the near future.
- When multiple sceneries are installed in the same area a bug showing the underlying stock photogrammetry can occur. This is a known bug which was introduced in SU11, Asobo/Microsoft are aware of it and will hopefully fixed in the near future.

The airport is consisting a 7,999 ft long runway to provide regular flights to Taipei by UNI Air(ICAO: UIA) and Mandarin Airlines (ICAO: MDA) ATR-72, B737, and A320, as well as Daily Air (ICAO: DAC) regular DHC6 island flight operations to Orchid Island (Lanyu Airport : RCLY) and Green Island (Lüdao Airport : RCGI). The first flight school of Taiwan, Apex Aviation is also homed at this airport, Trainers DA40 NG, DA42 NG and Tecnam P2012 are steered by young wings daily over this beautiful corner of Taiwan to pursuing their future aviation careers.
The new hangar expansion project of the National Airborne Service Corps had been completed in 2023 for stationing more UH-60 helicopters here to provide local emergency rescue operations.

Tips:
- Set Ship and Ferry Traffic to 10% or more for the best results.
- Set Ground Wind Speed to 3 m/s (7 knots) or above for the best wake effects.
- Due to a bug in the sim that prevents traffic from loading fully, we recommend changing the time slightly when the flight loads. This will force all the boat traffic to reload properly.
