Surrounded by some of the steepest mountains on Norway's west coast, the fjord is very narrow with no habitable shore area. The precipitous heights rise almost vertically from the water, with rugged strata and foaming waterfalls cascading from jagged peaks. Despite the challenging terrain, a few mountain farms exist here. Some of these farms are accessible only by hazardous paths winding around steep precipices and bridges anchored to the mountain with iron bolts and rings, showcasing the remarkable ingenuity developed in response to nature's challenges.
The two most notable waterfalls in the Geiranger Fjord are the Seven Sisters Falls and the Suitor (Nynorsk: Friaren). These falls face each other across the fjord, with the Suitor said to be wooing the sisters opposite. Another waterfall, the Bridal Veil, is named for its delicate descent over a rocky edge, appearing like a thin veil when backlit by the sun.

Historical
In 1962, Paul Ricard created the largest private aerodrome in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region with a 1,000 m runway reserved for VFR flights.
In 1970 the construction of the racing circuit gave more activity to the aerodrome and in 1972, Paul Ricard invested by extending the runway to 1,750 m and able to accommodate planes up to 50 tons.
The airline Logistair, created in 1972, was based at the airport, but the few lines operated to Mende, Millau and Corsica did not allow it to acquire a healthy situation. It then moved to Montpellier airport, becoming Air Littoral2.
The aerodrome has experienced intense activity with the Formula 1 Grand Prix from 1971 to 1990 and since 2018.
In May 1999, Excelis S. A. bought the site (aerodrome and circuit) and modernized the facilities in 2001 after the creation of a new terminal, a control tower, 5 new aircraft hangars and new lighting beacons. The airport reopens to air traffic after works in February 2002.
In November 2001, Le Castellet Airport became a high-end international business airport and the second airport in the Var.
In February 2010, the airport inaugurated an integrated photovoltaic power plant on the 5,000 m2 roof of the H5 hangar.
The airport can accommodate commercial aircraft such as Fokker 100, Embraer 135/145, BAE146, MD83, business aircraft such as Falcon 900, 2000, Phenoms, Citations, Learjet, Gulfstream, BBJ, all types of aircraft from recreation, Fighter planes type L39, Hunter, Alpha Jet and Helicopters type EC135, AS355B2, Dauphin.
Infrastructure
The aerodrome has a single runway oriented 13/31 (12/30 from November 5, 2020) (QFU 127/307) 1,750 m long and 30 m wide, paved.
The aerodrome is not approved for night VFR, but is day and night IFR approved.

History
The airport was built by Infraero and inaugurated in 1984. Its purpose was to lessen the congestion at Pampulha Airport, which at the time was operating at 120% of its capacity of 1. 3 million passengers per year. It was expected that by 1990, passenger movement at Confins would be nearly 2 million passengers per year. However, it surpassed the 1 million passenger mark only 22 years later. Presently its maximum operational capacity is 22 million passengers per year.
After its inauguration, just a small fraction of the capacity of Confins was used. This was partly due to its distance from downtown Belo Horizonte and, until recently, to the lack of satisfactory transportation alternatives for the pricey (about US $ 40) taxi rides. The over-crowded Pampulha Airport remained the airport of choice.
Airport exterior
In order to revert this scenario, in March 2005 the government of the state of Minas Gerais with the support of agencies of the Federal government decided to restrict Pampulha to operations of aircraft with capacity of up to 50 passengers. In the months thereafter, most operations were forced to move to Confins and the airport gained a new momentum. At that time, 130 flights were transferred from Pampulha to Confins, increasing annual passenger flow from 350,000 to around 3. 0 million that year.
The problems related to the distance of Confins to downtown Belo Horizonte were lessened by recent projects such as the improvement of the highway that links the city center to the airport (MG-10 highway), part of a larger project called Linha Verde (Green Line ), which seeks to reduce the time needed to reach the airport. Another project called the "Industrial Airport" is underway. In this project the government will exempt tax of businesses interested in settling their operations near the airport.
Its cargo facilities have a capacity of handling 18,000 tones (39,682,000 lb) and the warehouse has 6,400 m² (68,889 ft²).
The main maintenance facilities of Gol Airlines are located at this airport.
On 26 April 2011 it was confirmed that in order to speed-up much needed renovation and upgrade works, private companies would be granted a concession to explore some Infraero airports - among them, in a later phase, Confins. The plan was confirmed on 31 May 2011 and it was added that Infraero would retain 49% of the shares of each privatized airport and that negotiations were expected to be concluded in the first half of 2012.
On 22 November 2013 the Brazilian Government had a bidding process to determine the operator of the airport from 2014 until 2044. The group BH Airport formed by CCR (75%) and the administrator of Munich and Zurich Airports (25%) won the competition.
On 16 September 2015, all international operations were transferred to a new provisional terminal - Terminal 3 while domestic operations remained in Terminal 1.
The construction of Terminal 2 - an extension of Terminal 1 - started in September 2015 and finished in December 2016. It increased the airports capacity to 22 million passengers per year. On 8 December 2016 Terminal 2 was opened for domestic operations and in January 2017 international operations were transferred from Terminal 3. With the transfer of operations, Terminal 3 was closed.

Likewise, the survey also showed that the complex is the best in 11 items evaluated (out of 48), among them the categories "comfort", "service", "general cleaning" and "public transport". In October 2015, it was elected the best passenger terminal in the country, being the big winner of the 25th edition of the "Upis Tourism Award". In March 2017, the airport was appointed as the largest exporter in the northeast in 2016. In July 2018, the airport was awarded the best in Brazil in the category of up to 05 million passengers by the Ministry of Transport.
Conceived under the concept of "airport-city", the objective is, together with the creation of the Export Processing Zone (ZPE) of Macaíba, pole of attraction for exporting companies, to raise the level of competitiveness of cargo and passenger transportation in the Due to its proximity to the European continent. The complex is seen by political authorities as one of the levers for the economy of Rio Grande do Sul in the coming years. Located 12 km from the center of Recife, the airport caters to domestic and international passenger movements. It operates 24 hours a day and its name is an allusion to the historical fact of the Battles of the Guararapes, which occurred in the Brazilian colonial period on the Morro dos Guararapes, located on its west side.
Its construction predates the Second World War, and the conflict served to improve the structure of the Recife Air Base and, consequently, the airport itself. At the end of the 1940s, Recife became of great importance in air traffic, in the midst of the airways of the South Atlantic - Europe, due to its strategic geographical position. The current passenger terminal has the capacity to receive 16. 5 million passengers per year, which makes Guararapes Airport the largest, in annual capacity, in North-Northeast Brazil. In addition, it has a patio with 21 aircraft positions equipped with jetways (air-conditioned connectors); 64 check-in counters and 2,120 parking spaces. According to Infraero, its runway is 3,007 meters long. The airport was granted in 2019 to the Spanish company Aena Internacional, along with five other airport terminals in the Northeast region, for thirty years.

The airport complex was granted to the private sector on March 16, 2017. In an international bidding process, in which the Federal Government granted four Brazilian airports to the private sector, Fraport AG won the concession for the airports of Fortaleza and Porto Alegre for the next 30 and 25 years, respectively. Since then, Fraport Brasil - Fortaleza and Fraport Brasil - Porto Alegre were established in the country with the objective of creating two modern, efficient and customer-focused airports. The company took over the management of the airport on July 28, 2017 and has agreed on a concession contract for several improvements to the Passenger Terminal infrastructure.
Covering a total area of 850,000 m² in the north of Porto Alegre, the airport complex has its own road access system. Avenida Severo Dullius, the access road to the airport, connects with Avenida dos Estados, complement of BR-116. The entire structure is divided into a passenger terminal and an administrative building.
It was the first airport managed by Infraero to have an integrated check-in system. The airport has an Instrument Landing System (ILS) Category II at head 11 (west), allowing landings with a minimum horizontal visibility of 400 meters. The system is very useful in the periods between June and August, when a huge number of morning arrivals are delayed or canceled due to fog.
