And if you are fortunate enough to be headed that way, chances are you'll pass through the island's primary airport, Lihue Airport.
Airport is located about 1. 5 miles east of the town of Lihue, along Kauai's southeast coast. Visitors consistently give the facility high marks for its ease of navigation, cleanliness, friendly staff, laid-back yet professional atmosphere, and partially open-air design.
LIH's origins date back to 1948 when land was purchased and a runway was constructed. By 1949, limited services were provided, and the terminal was still under construction. Soon thereafter, construction was completed and the terminal was dedicated in January 1950. As soon as it opened, the airport saw a huge spike in passenger traffic that exceeded prior estimates. Just one year later, plans were set in motion to enlarge the facility. By 1955 the airport covered 160 acres and included a restaurant, parking lot, ground transportation, improved runway, hangars, and lighting. Several additions and improvements were made over the next several years. By 1974, as the number of passengers continued to increase, it became evident that the facility was not equipped to meet the demands. In addition, airlines were starting to use larger aircraft, rendering the single runway inadequate. A new runway was dedicated in 1984; its completion also marked the beginning of a modernization plan for the facility, which was soon undertaken. The current terminal was dedicated in 1987. The upgrades also included a new parking lot, enlarged airport roadways, and modernized utility systems. Today, Lihue Airport occupies 879 acres and sees air carrier, general aviation, air taxi, and military operations. Approximately 8,100 passengers per day utilize the facility, most of whom arrive via American, Delta, United, Alaska Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, Southwest, and WestJet.
While you wait for your flight, be sure to peruse the various display cases and artwork located throughout the terminal. Some of these change periodically, but you can often find information regarding native plant and animal species, books written by various Kauai authors, artwork, and other displays of cultural value. As an added bonus, there is traditional Hawaiian entertainment provided at intervals throughout the day for your listening pleasure. It's the perfect way to either set the mood for your stay on Kauai or say goodbye to the beautiful Garden Island.

VYMD/MDL Mandalay International Myanmar
Mandalay International Airport (IATA: MDL, ICAO: VYMD), located 35 km south of Mandalay in Tada-U, is one of three international airports in Myanmar. Mandalay International Airport (IATA: MDL, ICAO: VYMD), located 35 km south of Mandalay in Tada-U, is one of three international airports in Myanmar. Completed in 1999, it replaced the old Mandalay Chanmyathazi Airport as the city's main airport, and it was the largest and most modern airport in the country until the modernization of Yangon International Airport in 2008. The airport connects 11 domestic and seven international destinations. Its 4,267-meter (13,999-foot) runway is the longest runway in use in Southeast Asia and has the capacity to handle up to 3 million passengers a year. The Mandalay International Airport project was first conceived by the Burmese military government in the mid-1990s as a way to increase overall levels of foreign investment and tourism in Myanmar. With Yangon boasting the only other international airport in the whole country, the new Mandalay airport was regarded as crucial in achieving a planned 10% annual passenger growth. The hope was for Mandalay to become a hub for flights to other major Asian cities, in particular Beijing, Hanoi, Bangkok, Kolkata, and Dhaka. On November 16, 2014, a consortium of Mitsubishi Group and an affiliate of Japan Airlines signed a concession agreement with the Myanmar government to operate the airport for 30 years. The joint firm undertook the operation, rehabilitation, and maintenance of airport facilities, including terminal buildings and the airport's sole runway, excluding air traffic control, with operations having begun around March 2015. The agreement's main focus is to generate further expansion of domestic and international flights to Mandalay and to increase passenger traffic through the airport.

Known for its intermeshing rotor system and exceptional lift capacity, the K-Max is the only helicopter that can lift more than its own weight. Dive into the innovative features and the rich history of this unique aircraft with three versions; Rainier Heli Lift, equipped with fire suppression tanks and a water siphon snorkel for realistic firefighting missions. Rotak Helicopter Services with a 140 foot/43 meter tethered Bambi bucket to simulate limited access aerial firefighting operations and VMUT-2 Night Owls, representing the K-Max in military service with the US Marines in Afghanistan in 2009, including an optional sling load for logistics missions.
Unique animations help increase immersion while the specialized water controls have been configured to trigger via the simulator’s default controls, allowing you to map these operations to your preferred controller inputs or hotkeys for intuitive use. Once onboard you'll see that vertical operations are conducted looking out the side window and we hope you'll enjoy the freedom of clicking your joystick or keyboard in this regard. Enjoy true-to-life Wwise audio recorded directly from actual K-Max aircraft.
The Kaman K-Max was first introduced in 1991 and was produced through 2003, with another production run started in 2016 that ran until 2022. It is renowned for its unique intermeshing rotor design which eliminates the need for a tail rotor. Initially developed for logging operations, its versatility soon saw it adapted for various heavy-lift tasks, including firefighting and military logistics.
In conventional helicopters, a significant amount of engine power is dedicated to overcoming the drag caused by the tail rotor. Typically, around 15-30% of the total engine power is used to drive the tail rotor. This power expenditure is necessary to counteract the torque produced by the main rotor and to maintain directional stability and control. A standout feature of the K-Max is its servo tab control system, which provides precise handling and maneuverability. This system uses small, adjustable tabs on the rotor blades to control the helicopter, significantly reducing pilot workload and enhancing stability. The K-Max's ability to perform in challenging environments has made it a favorite for missions requiring high precision and reliability.
The K-Max has a rich operational history, with diverse applications ranging from aerial firefighting to military use. The US Marines chose the K-Max for its ability to serve as a pilotless cargo drone, showcasing its advanced capabilities in unmanned operations. During its deployment in Afghanistan, the K-Max proved invaluable in transporting supplies in hazardous conditions. Its role in firefighting includes specialized equipment like water siphon systems and Bambi buckets, making it an essential tool in combating wildfires, especially in mountainous regions, or areas of limited access, where K-Max can sip water from mountain streams that other platforms cannot access. The combination of unique design, advanced control systems, and proven operational history makes the K-Max a remarkable aircraft in the world of aviation.
Make no mistake, this versatility is not casual. K-Max is marketed as an aerial truck and it flies that way. It was purpose built to deliver the goods and flown right it is a stable as a rock. You can literally let go of the controls at anything close to level flight and K-Max will settle into a hover. It does not like to fly fast or at steep banking angles, especially loaded. It's not for the faint of heart! This interpretation of K-Max was designed specifically to provide access and enjoyment to all skill levels.
For version 2 we've added the Garmin Aera 510, simulated logging operations, a new livery, all new gauge logic and special attention was paid to the flight model. In consultation with helicopter pilots we've brought the flight dynamics very close to what could be expected from the actual aircraft.
This package includes a practice scenery area by a small lake that has been set up with a few nearby wildfires. 32OR, Pine Hollow Wamic, Oregon.
The Bambi bucket DEFINATELY works, you have to "turn it on. " There is a manual available here:

Often regarded as 'the poor relation' to the Supermarine Spitfire, the Hawker Hurricane was in fact, a very capable fighting machine and again in fact, was responsible for 60% of Luftwaffe losses during the Battle of Britain. As a fighter, the Hurricane was no match for the manoeuvrability of the Messerschmitt BF109 but if a skilled pilot could bring those eight guns to bear, more often than not, the opposition was doomed amid a hail of concentrated fire. Those thick profile wings provided an extremely stable gun platform from which to shoot too. As the Battle developed, Hurricanes were assigned the primary role of destroying the waves of enemy bombers heading for British shores - Spitfires taking over the role of fighter interception and hence the more glamorous image.
During the Battle, the Hawker Hurricane made 'aces' of many of the young pilots flying daily to defend the shores of Great Britain. It fought in all the theatres of WW2, inflicting a massive amount of damage not only to enemy forces in the air but on the ground and at sea.
Much of this success was owed to its incredibly durable construction, enabling the aircraft to sustain huge amounts of punishment and still keep going. Cannon rounds would pass harmlessly, straight through the fabric of the rear fuselage structure without exploding and substantial armour plating behind the seat would provide protection for the pilot from rear attack.
There is little doubt, that without this iconic aircraft's rugged durability and the dogged determination of the RAF's Hurricane pilots,
Britain's 'Finest Hour' might have lasted a lot longer than it did.
In this tribute package you will find not only the Battle of Britain Mk1 but also the Tropicalised version with Vokes filter under the nose and a Sea Hurricane equipped with fully functional tail-hook for carrier landings.

Marine Airfield known as Bordelon Field which was just across the highway. It was the Kamuela Airport from 1946-1957. In October 1946, the Territorial Department of Public Works published a Master Plan to construct a Class III Airport in Kamuela. The proposed airport had one runway of 4,650 feet by 100 feet. Waimea was a popular tourist center before the war and tourist facilities, which were occupied by Marines during World War II, were converted to tourist facilities. On February 20, 1952, the construction of the new Kamuela Airport was started. In the following years, the airport has modified and completed new parts of the building. The airport has been equipped with new lighting and technology. The final view of the building has also acquired by 1972. The terminal featured a ranch house design and was the first of a combination passenger-freight structure in the island. As of June 2010, the airline listed flights from Honolulu to Waimea-Kohala (Kamuela) but none could be booked. The site stated “Sorry there are no flights available” regardless of what date was sought. The HDOT is working to determine if scheduled passenger service should be discontinued at Waimea-Kohala, as passengers have access to Kona International Airport which is less than a 30-minute drive from Kamuela. Nowadays, the airport is used for tourist excursions on the helicopters of the company "Paradise helicopters". Also, the airport is actively used for flights on gliders and balloons.
