Warsaw Modlin Airport is an international airport located 40 km (25 miles) north of Warsaw, Poland. The airport is intended to be used by low-cost carriers serving Warsaw. As of 2017, it is the fifth busiest airport in the country, with 2,932,639 passengers served annually. The facility is currently exclusively served by Ryanair and business/general aviation.
Originally designed for military use in the Second Polish Republic in 1937, it was not opened by Polish authorities. Instead, it was made operational during World War II in 1940 as an airbase by the German Luftwaffe in occupied Poland. Postwar, between 1945 and 2000, it was used by Polish and Soviet air forces. In 2000, the Polish Ministry of National Defence declared the airfield closed. The airport's runway was in poor condition and lacked proper lighting and modern radio navigation aids.
In September 2009, it was announced that tenders were being accepted and funding had been secured from the EU for an opening in 2011, in time for the Euro 2012 Football Tournament. Construction works finally began in October 2010 and were expected to be completed before Euro 2012; however the deadline was not met and instead the airport began to operate in July 2012.
On 22 December 2012, it was announced that the runway at the airport would be closed to larger aircraft such as the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 indefinitely for safety reasons. Ryanair confirmed on the day of the runway closure it would divert all aircraft to Warsaw-Chopin Airport until the runway was repaired. Wizz Air also confirmed that it would route its flights to Chopin Airport until Modlin re-opened. The official re-opening took place over six months later on 4 July 2013 after construction works to fix the runway had been completed. On 17 July 2013, Wizz Air announced it would not return to Modlin despite its re-opening, but stay at Warsaw-Chopin Airport instead. Ryanair returned to Modlin on 30 September 2013 and since added more routes to its initial schedule.
On 19 September 2013, the Category I Instrument Landing System was officially ready for use. At the same time tests began for the Category II Instrument Landing System which was ready for use by 1 May 2014. In October 2015, the airport welcomed its 5th millionth passenger overall. In December of the same year, an airport lounge was inaugurated.

In April 1951, the Federal Council's message concerning the authorized construction of 150 DH-112 Mk. 1 Venom aircraft was approved by the Federal Parliament with a commitment credit of 175 million francs. The license agreement included the Ghost-48 radial engine. It was produced by Gebrüder Sulzer AG and was installed in the aircraft from the 30th production aircraft. The Venom was the first Swiss Air Force fighter to be equipped with an ejection seat from the outset.
In February 1954, the Parliament approved the construction of another 100 DH-112 Mk. 4 Venom aircraft under license. 226 DH-112 Mk. 1 and Mk. 4 aircraft were used by troops as ground combat aircraft from 1954 to 1983. 24 DH-112 Mk. 1R aircraft were used as reconnaissance aircraft by 10 Squadron from 1954 to 1968. This was the largest fleet that served Switzerland. The new nose cone, introduced in the 1970s, houses a new UHF radio, a bomb aiming computer and a friend and foe device (IFF). The Venom was retired in 1983.
Our modeling is based on the latest MK4 Swiss version with instruments in metric values and texts in French.

The de Havilland Vampire, also known as the DH. 100, was the second military jet to be built in the United Kingdom by the de Havilland company. It entered service just after the Second World War and has the unique feature of being equipped with a twin-beam rear fuselage. It was the first jet aircraft to cross the Atlantic Ocean, and the first jet aircraft capable of operating from an aircraft carrier. More than 4,500 were built, some under licence, and used by about 25 different countries. Switzerland tested it in 1946, followed by an order for 75 aircraft in 1949 and the manufacture under licence of 100 aircraft. Originally acquired as a fighter, it was used until 1970 as a fighter and ground attack aircraft. It was then used as a training aircraft and target aircraft for the anti-aircraft warfare. The last military flights took place at the end of 1990, many of them were sold at auction and some still fly in various countries.
The Vampire DH-100 underwent two major upgrades: the first in 1960 with the installation of an ejection seat and modernized instrumentation (artificial horizon and gyrocompass). The second in 1980 with the addition of UHF radio equipment and a transponder (IFF), which necessitated the lengthening of the nose, which became pointed like that of the DH-112 Venom of the time. The 1960s also saw the start of blind flight (IFR) for the Swiss Air Force. The existing direction-finding stations were supplemented by approach radar installations (GCA) and a very original omnidirectional talking radio system (NAFU). We intend to reproduce the operation of this system and thus provide our Vampires with blind flight and landing capabilities in a future update that we hope will also allow the engagement of the armament as realized in the P3D version.

Features such as a retractable landing gear, cantilevered wings, and a top speed of over *190 miles per hour, undoubtedly make the 247D a remarkable aircraft with historic significance.
The Wing42 Boeing 247D is the first aircraft in MSFS to fully implement a radio range navigation module that will have you "flying the beam. " So attune your ears and decipher the code, it's by no means an easy feat, but it's all geared towards giving you an experience like no other. If you are looking for immersion that simulates a wide range of behaviours and effects, then prepare to have your hat blown off with our custom-coded Prop-o-Tronic Physics Engine. It uses real-world physics to simulate a rich and interactive flight with significant consequences - so don't be ill-prepared!
Full list of Features
3D Model
High fidelity 3d model with high-resolution PBR textures throughout the aircraft.
Flight Model
Super-realistic flight model, based on aerodynamic analysis and numerous sources from operating procedures to pilot reports. The flight model for the Boeing 247D was meticulously developed by aerodynamics expert Pamela Brooker, verified and tested by seasoned pilots.
System Simulation
The Boeing 247D features our first implementation of the Prop-o-Tronic physics engine in Microsoft Flight Simulator. Systems accurately simulated by Prop-o-Tronic are:
- Oil System
Viscosity, temperature, 4 different oil grades are all simulated for dozens of parts in the engine.
- Electrical System
Real-world engineering calculations to accurately simulate voltages and currents. Make sure to pack some extra fuses, because they can pop during flight.
- Realistic Heat-exchange
Instead of relying on MSFS lookup-tables, heat is calculated using real-world engineering formulas that define the interaction between all the different parts of the engines. Heat is exchanged via convection, conduction and radiation.
- Much, much more
Animations
Custom animations for all moving parts and controls, from the light switch in the wash room to the vibration of the antenna wire in the wind.
Ground operations and our virtual clipboard
Our virtual clipboard is used to install various ground equipment, remove the cowling of the Pratt&Whitney S1H1-G engines, load the aircraft with passengers, cargo, mail, fuel and oil, and get the engines started. We also provide some key-reference data for your flight, in case you don’t have your checklists handy.
Realistic engine start-up procedure
The 247 had a peculiar engine starter, consisting of a flywheel with a hand-crank and clutch, both operated by the ground crew. You can either have your virtual ground crew do their job, or get your hands dirty by hand-cranking the engines yourself.
Sound
The add-on comes with a custom WWise sound pack, carefully designed by the professional audio mastermind Zak Spence. It includes amazing engine sounds, wind effects, audible controls and much more for a most immersive experience. Hear the engines roar, the equipment rumble, the radio crack and the switches click.
Fully functional Radio Range Navigation
The Wing42 Boeing 247D features an now outdated radio navigation system called “radio range”. The pilot of a historic 1930s aircraft would dial in a frequency on the radio and listen to the changing Morse code transmitted to find his way. It is an annoying and challenging, yet very rewarding way of navigating the skies. We included almost 700 historical radio stations (around 400 of them located in the U. S. A. ) and outfitted the aircraft with a Bendix MR1B wireless controller.
But fear not! We also provide plenty of information in form of manuals and video tutorials to get you started!
Custom FX
Utilizing the new effects system where possible, the Boeing 247D comes with custom made effects. From engine smoke to reading lamps in the cabin, the Boeing has them all!
Documentation
We provide extensive learning material to help you familiarize yourself with the aircraft. Included are two training manuals from the 1940s to familiarize yourself with old-fashioned radio navigation.
Liveries
The Wing42 Boeing 247D comes in nine different variations:
- Fictional Wing42 livery
- United Air Lines NC13361 (1933 livery)
- Precipitation Control N3977C
- Lufthansa D-AGAR

The Dorand AR. 1 was a World War I French two-seat reconnaissance bi-plane used by the French Air Force, the American Expeditionary Force, Kingdom of Greece and Kingdom of Serbia.
Designed by Captain Lepére of the STAé (Section Technique de l'Aéronautique). Dorand AR-series were named after the STAé director, Lt. Col. Dorand. They were characterized by backward-staggered two-bay wings and angular all-moving tail surfaces.
Production began in a state-owned S. T. Aé. factory at Chalais-Meudon near Paris after flight testing had been completed in the autumn 1916.
The first of the thirteen squadrons which flew Dorands on the Western Front received their aircraft in the spring 1917. Five other French squadrons used the type on the Italian Front.
In 1917 the American Expeditionary Force ordered the Renault-engine varieties of the Dorand, the first of 22 AR. 1s being delivered in December 1917 and the first of 120 AR. 2s in following February.
The presented AR. 1 A2 200 was a mid-production version powered by a 150 kW (200 hp) @1600rpm Renault 8Gdy V8 naturally aspirated liquid-cooled 900in3 (14. 7L) engine with a wet sump oil system and twin-choke updraught carburettor.
