The current airport was designed at the beginning of the 1930s and inaugurated on 24 May 1933. The terminal building was designed by Romanian architect Constantin Dragu.
An international route opened on 28 March 1937, when LOT Polish Airlines and LARES began operating a service between Palestine and Poland: Lydda – Rhodos – Athens – Thessaloniki – Sofia – Bucharest – Cernăuți – Lwow – Warsaw. Both airlines used Lockheed L-10A Electra aircraft for this route, later supplemented by the Savoia-Marchetti SM. 83.
On 15 June 1938, the domestic route Cernăuți – Cluj – Arad was launched, operated with Lockheed Electra, Savoia-Marchetti S. 73, and later Douglas B-23 Dragon aircraft.
During the Soviet period, flights connected Chernivtsi with various cities of the USSR, such as Kyiv, Odessa, Moscow, and others. Aircraft used included the Yak-40, Yak-42, and An-24, with An-12s operating cargo transfers.
In September 2018, the airport was named after Ukrainian astronaut Leonid Kadeniuk.

It was rebuilt and improved after the Armenia Earthquake, which occurred on January 25, 1999. It receives flights from Avianca, LATAM, Wingo, Spirit Airlines, Copa Airlines and the Colombian low-cost airline Clic Air. Its runway is capable of receiving aircraft such as: Boeing 737 and Boeing 727, Airbus A318, Airbus A319 and Airbus A320, Embraer 190 and Fokker 100, among others. Currently, El Edén International Airport, serving the city of Armenia (Quindío), is the airport with the longest runway in the coffee-growing region, and therefore the one that allows it to be defined as an airport with a great future in the region, given its expansion possibilities.
On March 13, 2009, the airport was formally declared International by Aerocivil, which means it is authorized to operate scheduled and charter international flights. Spirit Airlines began operating to this terminal from Fort Lauderdale on November 13, 2009. Tiara Air began flights on October 25, 2012, however, canceled its operations in Armenia shortly thereafter (given the company's financial difficulties).
In March 2015, Aerocivil approved new air routes for El Edén International Airport in Armenia, with two airlines: Air Panama and Viva Colombia. Air Panama began operations to Panama City at Marcos A. Gelabert Airport on December 1, 2015, with three weekly flights operated with Fokker 100 aircraft. However, for administrative reasons, Air Panama ceased operations from El Edén on February 1, 2018. However, on December 2, 2021, flights to Panama City began with Copa Airlines, presenting El Edén International Airport users with a great opportunity to connect through the Hub of the Americas in Panama (at Tocumen International Airport) to more than 60 international destinations. In mid-2021, LATAM Airlines announced the resumption of operations to Bogotá, starting June 16, using its Airbus A320 aircraft. On the other hand, the airline Viva Colombia obtained authorization for the routes Medellín-Armenia-Medellín, Cartagena-Armenia-Cartagena, and San Andrés - Armenia - San Andrés. Which began in March 2022. In 2023, the airline VivaAir cancels all its air operations inside and outside the country. The arrival of the Chilean low-cost airline JestMart is expected.

Approval
Le Castellet airport is part of list No. 1 (aerodromes open to public air traffic) of aerodromes authorized on January 31, 2010 (decree: NOR: DEVA1012766K) 1.
Historical
In 1962, Paul Ricard created the largest private aerodrome in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region with a 1,000 m runway reserved for VFR flights.
In 1970 the construction of the racing circuit gave more activity to the aerodrome and in 1972, Paul Ricard invested by extending the runway to 1,750 m and able to accommodate planes up to 50 tons.
The airline Logistair, created in 1972, was based at the airport, but the few lines operated to Mende, Millau and Corsica did not allow it to acquire a healthy situation. It then moved to Montpellier airport, becoming Air Littoral2.
The aerodrome has experienced intense activity with the Formula 1 Grand Prix from 1971 to 1990 and since 2018.
In May 1999, Excelis S. A. bought the site (aerodrome and circuit) and modernized the facilities in 2001 after the creation of a new terminal, a control tower, 5 new aircraft hangars and new lighting beacons. The airport reopens to air traffic after works in February 2002.
In November 2001, Le Castellet Airport became a high-end international business airport and the second airport in the Var.
In February 2010, the airport inaugurated an integrated photovoltaic power plant on the 5,000 m2 roof of the H5 hangar.
The airport can accommodate commercial aircraft such as Fokker 100, Embraer 135/145, BAE146, MD83, business aircraft such as Falcon 900, 2000, Phenoms, Citations, Learjet, Gulfstream, BBJ, all types of aircraft from recreation, Fighter planes type L39, Hunter, Alpha Jet and Helicopters type EC135, AS355B2, Dauphin.
Infrastructure
The aerodrome has a single runway oriented 13/31 (12/30 from November 5, 2020) (QFU 127/307) 1,750 m long and 30 m wide, paved.
The aerodrome is not approved for night VFR, but is day and night IFR approved.
SSLIA Service (Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting Service at aerodromes) level 1 (level 5 available on request).
Customs and police services on notice.
The control service is provided by an AFIS, the traffic is carried out on the frequency: 119,000 Mhz.
Restrictions on use
The aerodrome is forbidden to aircraft not equipped with radio and to gliders, but also to microlights in winds exceeding 15 kts.
Overflight of the racing circuit is prohibited below 1,500 ft / ground.

History
The airport handles domestic flights, and has the capacity to receive medium-sized aircraft such as the Boeing 737 and the Airbus 320.
In 2005 renovation works started at the airport. Projects included a passenger terminal located on a second runway and a control tower. The old terminal was converted into an international cargo terminal. The construction costed initially BRL 300 million, was paralyzed several times in 2006 and 2007 leaving construction virtually abandoned and delayed by overpricing and diversion of funds. It was finished on April 2018.
On March 15, 2019 Flughafen Zürich AG won a 30-year concession to operate the airport.
