Have you ever noticed that nearly every airport, airfield and many, many bush strips are available to choose from in the sim. But why limit yourself to just airports?
Here’s where my neat scenery comes in: MSFS Autogen Helipads
This tool relies on openstreetmap data and converts helipads from there into MSFS scenery
While converting it takes into account various parameters to represent these helipads as good as it’s possible in the sim.
Features? Here!
It all really depends on what data is available in openstreetmap, but:
It’s able to generate correct shape helipad
Helipads that dont have ICAO set in OSM will have a custom 5-character designator
Hospital helipads have correct hospital markings
There’s a lot of variation between helipads, examples:
Grass helipads will have a white outline around them to tell where exactly they are
Helipads will come with windsocks to help establish wind direction
Rooftop helipads outside of photogrammetry cities will come with a custom helipad 3D model placed on the roof to allow for using them without dealing with MSFS Building collisions that often don’t work properly
Helipads will flatten the area around them a bit, as MSFS terrain mesh isn’t always as flat as real life
Helipads come with a HELIPAD start and a PARKING start so you can start both Cold And Dark and Ready To Depart
Important Note
Due to high amount of helipads, if they weren’t hidden it would be unusuable due to low framerate. I have included a worldmap filter inside of autogen helipads package, that hides them from the worldmap. To select your departure helipad, use littlenavmap or the map on this website, and search for the helipad in the in-sim search window using it’s name or ICAO code.
You can also access the map of all helipads here, or in the userpoints. csv file for use with littlenavmap (which can be found in the zip)

Here in the then village of Harty lived the Žurovcov brothers, regional aviation pioneers who carried out their work and experiments in the years 1909 - 1914. After WW1, the brothers Josef and Vilém returned to civilian flying with an airplane bought from war surpluses. However, their business ended in time due to a lack of funds. The place where the Ostrava airport is now located was used for air traffic for the first time by the German Luftwaffe, which built a field airport here in 1939 after the occupation of Czechoslovakia for the preparation of an attack on Poland. In May 1945, on the other hand, they were used by the first Czechoslovak mixed air division. Then followed a period of inactivity and the land was returned to its original purpose, that is agricultural production.
Modern history begins in 1956 with the start of construction work on the current airport. It was clear from the beginning that there would not only be traffic here, but that the airport would primarily serve the needs of the military. The official start of civil air traffic is dated October 16, 1959, when the TU - 104 A aircraft landed here. The air traffic provided by ČSA included mainly domestic, but also irregular foreign flights. During them, all types of ČSA transport aircraft, whether piston or jet, took turns on the grounds of the Mošnov airport. In the 1960s and 1970s, there was also air taxi operation. The year 1989 became a significant turning point. Soon after that, in 1993, the activities of the military part of the airport came to an end and thus all concerns related to the operation of the airport were transferred to the shoulders of ČSL. July 1, 2004 was a date when the Ostrava airport was transferred from the property of the Czech Airport Administration, s. p. into the ownership of the Moravian-Silesian Region. Ostrava Airport has become a dynamically developing organism. Today, you can meet here airplanes of various carriers, without exaggeration, from all over the world on charter flights, as well as machines of domestic airlines. Ostrava International Airport has become an important partner for the development of the entire Moravian-Silesian region.
Currently, the following companies operate from this airport on regular routes are: LOT, Ryanair, Travel Service and Smart Wings. On charter lines: Bulgarian Air Charter, CSA and others. Among the cargo companies here you can see: DHL Aviation, Uzbekistan Airways and others. Also, thanks to companies like IAC and JOB-AIR Technic, you can meet other beautiful planes at this airport.

Phaplu is the closest airport to Mount Everest that is connected to the national road network. Due to rising tourist numbers there are more and more scheduled flights to this airport which is not only another Gateway to Everest but in itself a beautiful destination nested into a lush green landscape.
The airport has an interesting location along a slope with an apron carved into the terrain and the tower and terminal on top of a high wall that follows the runway. Be cautious when taxiing here as you wouldn‘t be the first pilot there who‘s wingtip would touch the wall! Approaches to the airport however are troubled by the harsh wind conditions in the valley. Due to strong wind the airport closes at noon, which means that flights are only happening in the morning hours when the weather is usually suitable for flying. Gusts of 43 knots have been recorded here.
As a bonus there’s another challenging airport included in this package: Kangel Danda, which is spectacularly located on top of a mountain between Rumjatar and Lukla. At both ends of the runway there are steep cliffs letting you gain ground clearance quickly without even climbing.
Recently there have been plans to re-commence scheduled flights here since the coms equipment got destroyed by a thunderstorm and little efforts have been made to repair it for years. The goats grazing the airport are happy using is as a welcome pasture.

Known for its intermeshing rotor system and exceptional lift capacity, the K-Max is the only helicopter that can lift more than its own weight. Dive into the innovative features and the rich history of this unique aircraft with three versions; Rainier Heli Lift, equipped with fire suppression tanks and a water siphon snorkel for realistic firefighting missions. Rotak Helicopter Services with a 140 foot/43 meter tethered Bambi bucket to simulate limited access aerial firefighting operations and VMUT-2 Night Owls, representing the K-Max in military service with the US Marines in Afghanistan in 2009, including an optional sling load for logistics missions.
Unique animations help increase immersion while the specialized water controls have been configured to trigger via the simulator’s default controls, allowing you to map these operations to your preferred controller inputs or hotkeys for intuitive use. Once onboard you'll see that vertical operations are conducted looking out the side window and we hope you'll enjoy the freedom of clicking your joystick or keyboard in this regard. Enjoy true-to-life Wwise audio recorded directly from actual K-Max aircraft.
The Kaman K-Max was first introduced in 1991 and was produced through 2003, with another production run started in 2016 that ran until 2022. It is renowned for its unique intermeshing rotor design which eliminates the need for a tail rotor. Initially developed for logging operations, its versatility soon saw it adapted for various heavy-lift tasks, including firefighting and military logistics.
In conventional helicopters, a significant amount of engine power is dedicated to overcoming the drag caused by the tail rotor. Typically, around 15-30% of the total engine power is used to drive the tail rotor. This power expenditure is necessary to counteract the torque produced by the main rotor and to maintain directional stability and control. A standout feature of the K-Max is its servo tab control system, which provides precise handling and maneuverability. This system uses small, adjustable tabs on the rotor blades to control the helicopter, significantly reducing pilot workload and enhancing stability. The K-Max's ability to perform in challenging environments has made it a favorite for missions requiring high precision and reliability.
The K-Max has a rich operational history, with diverse applications ranging from aerial firefighting to military use. The US Marines chose the K-Max for its ability to serve as a pilotless cargo drone, showcasing its advanced capabilities in unmanned operations. During its deployment in Afghanistan, the K-Max proved invaluable in transporting supplies in hazardous conditions. Its role in firefighting includes specialized equipment like water siphon systems and Bambi buckets, making it an essential tool in combating wildfires, especially in mountainous regions, or areas of limited access, where K-Max can sip water from mountain streams that other platforms cannot access. The combination of unique design, advanced control systems, and proven operational history makes the K-Max a remarkable aircraft in the world of aviation.
Make no mistake, this versatility is not casual. K-Max is marketed as an aerial truck and it flies that way. It was purpose built to deliver the goods and flown right it is a stable as a rock. You can literally let go of the controls at anything close to level flight and K-Max will settle into a hover. It does not like to fly fast or at steep banking angles, especially loaded. It's not for the faint of heart! This interpretation of K-Max was designed specifically to provide access and enjoyment to all skill levels.
For version 2 we've added the Garmin Aera 510, simulated logging operations, a new livery, all new gauge logic and special attention was paid to the flight model. In consultation with helicopter pilots we've brought the flight dynamics very close to what could be expected from the actual aircraft.
This package includes a practice scenery area by a small lake that has been set up with a few nearby wildfires. 32OR, Pine Hollow Wamic, Oregon.
The Bambi bucket DEFINATELY works, you have to "turn it on. " There is a manual available here:
